We are saddened to learn that Virginia Oosthuizen, one of South Africa’s most distinguished operatic sopranos, has passed away.
Virginia not only enjoyed a hugely successful career on the opera stage, but she was also an accomplished Lieder singer. Her series on FMR on "The Song", with Dave Kruger, was extremely popular with listeners.
Our condolences to her family and friends. Her voice will live on.

CLASSICAL: MOZART'S SYMPHONIES - TARMO PELTOKOSKI
Is there something in the water in Finland that is making that nation produce such excellent conductors? Maybe it’s the country’s consistent ranking for four years running as the happiest in the world. principal guest conductor of the Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in 2022 and it was named Orchestra Of The Year at the Grammophone awards a year later. He’s the youngest conductor on the Deutsche Grammophon roster when they signed him up last year. On his debut album he conducts 3 of Mozart’s later symphonies with such deftness that he’s blown Rodney Trudgeon’s hat off. This album is simply sublime.

JAZZ: GEORGE BENSON MEETS ROBERT FARNON “Grammy® Award-winning jazz guitarist-vocalist George Benson releases a long-lost orchestral album, ‘Dreams Do Come True: When George Benson Meets Robert Farnon’. Farnon’s lush arrangements perfectly complement Benson’s soulful vocals and fluid guitar work on a handful of American standards, and reimagined classics by the Beatles and Leon Russell. Benson recorded Dreams Do Come True during a prolific period and chose to delay the album’s release. In the meantime, the recordings went missing and remained lost until recently, when they were rediscovered in Benson’s archive. Now, after 35 years, the album finally receives its proper release. Available on all leading download/streaming platforms.”

All we can say is that we are very excited for the next generation of musicians! The classical vocal and classical instrumental contestants were of a very high standard and made it a tough decision for the judges.
Congratulations to Frances van Vuuren (soprano) and Nathan Huysamen (clarinet) for winning their sections.
Thank you to a wonderful audience who joined us as well :)
