FMR'S JAZZ AND CLASSICAL MUSIC ALBUMS OF THE WEEK ARE:
JAZZ: Citrus Sun is Bluey's more instrumental-oriented side project which runs alongside Incognito and features many of the same musicians. "Anaconga," the latest release from Bluey’s Citrus Sun project, is a captivating tribute to jazz, soul, and funk greats, filled with standout reimaginings and fresh new compositions. The rhythms embrace your mind, and the melodies seeps into your spirit, while you luxuriate in the glow of the Citrus Sun.”
CLASSICAL: Ruth Gipps: Orchestral Works, Volume 3
BBC Philharmonic conducted by Rumon Gamba – from Chandos Records
Ruth Gipps came from the seaside resort of Bexhill-on-Sea and made her first appearances in the pre-war years as a regionally celebrated child pianist. She was a student when war broke out, which gave her, and other women, an opportunity to compose and play in previously all-male orchestras. After the war, those opportunities narrowed as men returned. Her many good works for the music profession in the UK went largely unsung, though she was eventually, grudgingly, awarded an MBE.

Until now the Opus newsletter, with the programme grid and schedule, has been sent to FMR members only. However, in celebration of three decades on air, we have decided to share Opus with all our FMR listeners, via our website. However we will still email Opus to our valued FMR members. If after reading Opus you feel inspired to become a member - we would really appreciate it. Our members are a very special bunch of people whose motivation is simple: to keep FMR on the air.
Opus is an extension of what happens on air. Both the newsletter and the grid and schedule are designed to enhance listening pleasure. Click here for the February edition:

The weirdest, whackiest, wonderfulest family is in town. The Addams Family: The Musical, is running at the Homecoming Centre (formerly the Fugard) to rave reviews and has extended to 2 March. With quirky charm, clever wit and a touching story of love and acceptance you can expect stunning performances and breathtaking set designs and costumes. The music is modern and fresh with an inspiring blend of Classic Musical, Rock and Latin. Featuring Samantha Peo, Bethany Dickson, Tiaan Rautenbach, Brendan van Rhyn and an excessively talented cast, it has been described as “a theatrical triumph” and “the best show in Cape Town this season.” Definitely not to be missed. Book through Webtickets.

The Adventurous Ewe we loved having EWE in studio!

This week, I had the pleasure of visiting Fine Music Radio Inc. studios to do a recording for The Adventurous Ewe!

Watching Mawande, the sound engineer, work his magic was fascinating—so many buttons and so much skill!

Even more exciting, I’ll be on air soon! Tune in to The Diary Show on Monday, 10th February, where I’ll be chatting about my upcoming women-only tours.

A huge thank you to Vanessa, Gavin, and the entire Fine Music team—what a wonderful experience!

📻 Stay tuned!
