Our family are huge fans of The Little Gym in Sea Point. All three of my kids have had weekly lessons there, weāve done their holiday camps and even had Zuriās birthday party there this year. The programme is imported from Belgium and adheres to the highest standards in teaching, physical and socio-emotional development - and is also about plain old FUN! Your kids will love it. Their December holiday programme runs from 18-22 Dec, and their classes will kick off again from January 2024. Highly recommend!
Did you know all Mom Club followers get 10% off the awesome mountain biking extramural ? They teach kids age 5+ and have lessons in small groups. It is so much fun! My boys have LOVED riding with them! š“āāļø

How to save money when you grocery shop šŖš»
You get to be human. You are already enough just as you are š©·š©·š©·
I know in my bones that itās possible and important to tend to our hearts, bodies and souls. You can care for your family without sacrificing yourself. So whatever it is thatās calling you, listen deeply. Whatever it is that youāre longing for, go after it.

This Live is coming up on Thursday this week and is very close to my heart. For those who donāt know, my husband and I fostered a beautiful baby last year. I fetched him from the hospital the day he was born & he lived with us for 8 months until August, when he was adopted by an incredible woman who is now my dear friend, Taryn. She and I will share each of our experiences with all of you š
Save this one! We just got back from a Mauritius trip with my 3 kids, and I want to share my top tips for packing that you might not have thought of.
It's a good idea to have a pram because resorts are generally large. Many resorts have prams available to borrow (you can ask ahead)
Snacks - meals are wonderful but no snacks between meals are provided. We took dried fruit, pretzels etc. (Note that you are prohibited from entering a new country with meat, like Biltong, or fresh fruit.)
Snorkels & goggles - youāll find them at the store, but they are usually not specifically for kiddies, and they are expensive
Inflatable pool toys - Iāve never seen a resort have these available to use, so if your kids enjoy them, bring them in their packaging and blow them up at the resort (youāll need to leave them behind). They'll spend hours swimming each day, so it's worth it
Baby monitor - if your room is right next to the beach, it may reach (our has in the past)
Beach bag - you will need a carrier for your towels and other goodies to spend the day at the beach or pool (especially if your room is far from the main pool). If you forget, you can use the laundry bag in your room, but itās generally too small
Enough sunscreen - youād be surprised how much you use in the sun all day every day and you donāt want to be buying at the resort store as itās pricey
Some local currency - draw at the airport. This is for salespeople on the beach. The beaches are generally not owned by the resorts so salespeople are allowed to offer you things like bracelets, sarongs, beach toys, temporary tattoos and sea sports/activities. Theyāll only take cash and your hotelās exchange rate will be worse than your bankās
Plenty of packets to bring home damp costumes and clothes. Iām talking 2-3 big black bags - balconies are often shaded so itās hard to get clothes dry
Breakaway Rides offers 10% off to ALL Mom Club followers!
Are you looking for a fun, active & healthy extramural activity for your kid? Breakaway Rides offers mountain biking lessons Monday to Friday (and some weekends) for kids age 5 to 17 years. Their lessons take place at parks, forests, trails & fields across the Cape Town CBD, Atlantic Seaboard, Southern Suburbs & Tygerberg. They start from beginner level & go all the way up to advanced and keep classes to 6 kids each, so there is loads of individual attention.
Parents buy lessons in packs of 5 or 10 so you donāt need to commit to a full term. Try it out & let me know if your kids love it. Mine did!
Save this for when you need it! We just got new passports for our kids, so here are 12 tips:
1. Apply online at https://ehome.dha.gov.za/ehomeaffairsv3?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 - if this link isnāt clickable, simply Google āeportal home affairsā
2. Do everything you can online: 1) complete the application form, 2) upload the supporting documents, 3) pay, & 4) book an appointment (each thing you do online is one less queue you have to stand in at the appointment)
3. When completing the online application, you wonāt be able to sign it. Just leave the box blank & submit. Youāll sign at the appointment
4. Book your appointment for your bank; if there are no suitable dates for your bank and you live in Cape Town, go to Epping Home Affairs - in my experience it was just as efficient as my bank (in & out in 49 minutes)
5. For the appointment, you need BOTH parents & the child to attend
6. Documents you need to bring with you to the appointment: both parentsā IDās, childās birth certificate, childās old passport (if they have one)
7. You donāt need to bring passport photos with. They insist on doing photos at your appointment
8. Try to get your children on the same timeline. For instance, Coleās passport expires now, whereas Liamās only expires next year. But we did them both now so we donāt have to go through this process again next year. Yes, you can still apply for a new passport if the old one hasnāt yet expired, you just need to pay an extra amount in (it was a few hundred Rand)
9. If you canāt get multiple appointments for your kids back to back, just make an appointment for one child and bring the other child with. When we got there, we explained we had an extra child with and they let both in
10. When they ask where you want to collect from, choose the same office (it takes longer if they need to transfer the passport from one to another)
11. Only one parent needs to be present for the collection, and the child doesnāt have to come with
12. When collecting, the parent needs to bring: the receipt (from the first appointment), childās birth certificate, and the ID of the parent collecting
Thatās it! Happy travels āļøš

Hey mamas! Make the most of the school holidays at any one of Acrobranchās 11 venues across South Africaā¦ Every time we go, we have a blast and I think about what an incredible experience it is for bravery, balance, strength and self-confidence. Itās also so pleasant for us parents as itās outdoors, there are lovely tables to sit at and the kids are beautifully occupied so itās a super easy activity. Age 3 up and prices are R160 to R300 depending on your kidsā ages. Iām so excited that the kind folks at Acrobranch have given all of you 20% off those prices, so take your kiddos this holiday š§āāļø
Trying to decide what to do over the winter holiday? To motivate our boys to be productive, healthy, and have some good old-fashioned fun this holiday, we developed a Winter Bucket List, which they can check off as they go. The points for each item are listed alongside the activity, and once they reach the magic number - 7,500 - they get a prize (one wanted a Lego set, the other a soccer kit). Let's see how it goeWe have it displayed in our playroom, and the boys are super excited about it šš»

I once read that instead of aiming for connection with our kids throughout any given day (a tough target with familiesā busy lives, juggling multiple kids etc), we should try to hit 3 key connection points each day: wake up, right after school, and then bedtime. Somehow that feels more manageable, right? Something to shoot for, even if the rest of the day is mayhem. Well Iām adding a brand new 4th to ours: homework. Hear me out. It can suck. Badly. Especially if it ends up being done in the evening after a string of extramurals or after work. But what Iām finding is this: since we need to sit and supervise this activity with a child for 15-30 min a day, letās make it count! Today, Cole and I did homework on my bed, cuddling while he read. On those days when the pace is slow - and I am the hugest fan of making that happen - letās take the time to connect during these learning moments šāļøš«¶š»

Join me tomorrow (Thursday) night at 20.30 for an intimate conversation with my very dear friend, Tiffini Hein. In August of last year, Tiff gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Archie. In the days that followed, Archie was diagnosed with a rare disorder and given only months to live. After 114 days of loving him, fighting for him, sucking the marrow of each moment with this magical child, Archie passed away. In the five months since then, Tiffini and her family have been deep in grief, but doing what they always do - creating light where there was darkness. We will listen as Tiffini explains how the Heins are immortalising Archie through books, and how we can get involved. You can follow Tiffiniās journey at and Archieās Archive on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100087181252361&mibextid=LQQJ4d)
