By Steven Mulonda There was nothing wrong with exporting some of the FRA maize to our brothers and sisters who faced food crises in Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Kenya etc. Contrary to Mr Kalaba's allegations the funds realised from the exports were deposited in the government account and utilised to fund vital government programs including paying off thousands of farmers who had supplied maize to FRA but had not been paid by the PF government. How do you punish farmers who feed the nation like that? When it comes to accountability and transparency the team at the Ministry of Finance has been outstanding. The Ministry has been giving updates on the execution of all approved National budgets since 2022 both in parliament and at open public venues attended by all stakeholders and the Press. How could FRA keep maize stocks from 2019, 2020 and 2021 as if maize production had completely stopped? FRA still bought maize from farmers in 2022 and 2023. Where was FRA going to store the new crop? This article only exposes Mr Kalaba's desperation for relevance in the political space.
