Joy to the world… De Villiers Chocolate launches NO ADDED SUGAR range!

Doris Fleischman was the wife of Edward Bernays, who is known as the father of modern-day public relations. Doris was an active suffrage leader, and sharp businesswomen, but her work was often overshadowed by her husband’s achievements.
Doris owned half of the business with her husband and was the brains behind several of the company’s campaigns. Bernays described his wife as his most valuable asset and their relationship as a “twenty-four-hour-a-day-partnership”.
Doris wanted to change women’s roles in society. As an active feminist, she was a member of the Lucy Stone League and she participated in the first Women’s Peace Parade in New York in 1917.

When she married Bernays, she signed the marriage license with her maiden name, Fleischman, which made newspaper headlines the very next day. She was also the very first married woman to be issued a United States passport in her maiden name. She was willing to take risks in order to make changes happen, and the effects are seen today.

Denora “Denny” Griswold began her PR-focused trade newsletter, Public Relations News, in 1944, when PR agencies were just getting started. But before founding Public Relations News, Denny was a scriptwriter for NBC, on the editorial staff for Business Week and was managing editor of Forbes magazine.

Back then the public relations discipline was largely male-dominated. Pioneers like Joseph Varney Baker, Phineas T. Barnum, Edward Bernays and Harold Burson led the field. So, to have launched a PR-focused trade newsletter at the early start of what was to become a full-fledged profession was beyond visionary.

Betsy Ann Plank is commonly known as the first lady of public relations because her public relations career, which lasted 63 years, was filled with many firsts. She served as executive vice president of Daniel J. Edelman, Inc. (now Edelman), before becoming director of public relations planning at AT&T and later director of external affairs at Illinois Bell
More than this, she played a central role in the establishment of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) in 1967. In 1987, Plank co-chaired a national commission to develop guidelines for an undergraduate public relations curriculum, serving on accrediting teams at several universities and speaking to numerous student groups and public relations classes to enhance education in the field.

Since then, the Betsy Plank Scholarship Endowment Fund has helped ensure the availability of public relations education funds for students at more than 40 colleges nationwide. Her focus on others led her to become the most individually recognized woman in the industry, a testament to the value of selflessness in professionalism.

Muriel Fox, who grew up in the “Mad Men” era of the 1950s and ‘60s when many women were consigned to the secretarial pool.
She pushed back by joining famed feminist writer and activist Betty Friedan to create National Organization for Women (NOW) and bring women into the mainstream of American society.

But before becoming a famed feminist, she applied for a job at the world's largest PR agency, then - Carl Byoir & Associates. She was rejected by the Executive Vice President of the agency stating, "We don't hire women writers." However, later she was hired as a publicist in that same agency's Radio-TV Department.

A few years later she hit that familiar glass ceiling again when she was told she had "progressed as far as she could go because corporate CEOs can't relate to women." It wasn't until many years later, in the 1970s that she became Executive Vice President of that same agency.

INSPIRING LOCKDOWN CAMPAIGNS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD (7/7)

GETTY MUSEUM – Recreations at home

We all need some entertainment and distraction while we stay home to flatten the curve. The Getty Museum gave us a great example of how a brand can provide this to art enthusiasts worldwide.

We believe that if you don’t enjoy working with someone it will show. Looking at the results of this campaign we can’t but help believe that the team working on this had a lot of fun.

The challenge: social media users were encouraged to recreate their favourite work of art with three things lying around your home.

The results: fabulous, ranging from classical and renaissance masterpieces to modern art. It was a campaign that engaged – whether you were an observer or a participant. The inspiration for this campaign was an Instagram account from Amsterdam, Tussen Kunst en Quarantaine (Between Art and Quarantine).

When great minds collide, great things are bound to happen. Like when Feed That Bird Communication Consultants, together with German label printing pioneers Vollherbst Labels, saw an opportunity to truly transform the traditional wine label. Quite simply and literally breathing new life into the label for Mosi Wines with a one-of-a-kind augmented reality experience.

Vollherbst_Etiketten_Labels' AR possibilities even made headlines on German TV earlier this month.

WATCH below.

We stand with the industry we love, filled with people we respect and admire. An industry that contributed R6 billion monthly to GDP and employed more than 500,000 people. The industry that is now bleeding because of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting lockdown regulations.

Today we’re joining Million Seats on the Streets, an initiative of the Restaurant Association of South Africa to bring awareness to this dire situation.

What can you do to help today?

1. Go have a beverage or something to eat at your local eatery
2. Wear a mask and practice social distancing
3. Take a pic and post to your social media channels using these hashtags:

INSPIRING LOCKDOWN CAMPAIGNS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD (5/7)

EMILY CRISPS – Ooops…

Creative problem solving is a must-have skill in this industry and Emily Chrisps’ Ooops campaign was one of the most creative ways to overcome a potentially disastrous situation.

Faced with the realisation that not many people would see its first outdoor ad campaign, Emily Crisps had to find ways to ensure it had an impact on other media. Although a number of brands that booked outdoor space during the lockdown, took a creative approach to misfortune, this campaign was the one that truly stood out. The campaign was fast out of the blocks: elegantly and economically written, a craft always to be applauded.

THAI AIRWAYS – Stay home mile exchange

With travel being on top of our to-do lists and something, we look forward to doing again soon. Working in the lifestyle industry and watching big brands close their doors because if this pandemic, it was inspiring to see how Thai Airways showed initiative by flipping their frequent flyer miles system on its head.

This campaign, created by Wunderman Thompson, actively encouraged the airline members to stay home during the Coronavirus pandemic and offered Thai Airlines three million free air miles to those who abide by this simple rule. The idea was that users would register their home and allow the airline’s app to track their location. They were then awarded one mile for every four hours they stayed put.
