Our not-so-little studio turned 3 this past week. 🍰

It's been a jol so far and we're so thrilled to have you along for the ride... 🎢

Not only is it our studio’s birthday, but our very own House and Leisure turns 30 this year too! (Fun fact: House and Leisure launched at the very first Decorex show in 1993 - another 90s baby!) Sounds like good things come in threes! 💛💛💛

We're honouring the past, reflecting, learning, celebrating and positively looking forward with gleeful abandon! 💫

There's so much to be thankful for. Cheers to us!🥂

NEW CRUSH ALERT 🛎️

Our studio is loving everything that's happening over at Ex Hotel, the fictional hotel with real furniture and Gabriel Hope at the helm 🫡

What's not to love? Limited edition custom furniture pieces, yes please! Everyone needs a place to sit and we'd gladly pull up a chair at this table. 🪑

We love our Ex so much, we included them in House and Leisure's Volume 8 (Create) studio visits round-up where creatives explain the ways (and spaces) in which they work. Meet the whole cohort of creatives on p56. 📒

TIME TO HIT THE HAY 💤

We've got the post-deadline snoozies, and this weather isn't helping... Yup, you heard right, the studio that never sleeps (😉) has just started printing our House and Leisure Winter edition, Volume 9 (Cocoon)! 📒

We took a little breather to look through Volume 8 (Create) and were reminded of all the cool collaborations and creations that were part of Autumn (like our style feature ‘House sitter’ with Elana Wasson's illustrations). ✏️

Waving another season goodbye isn't so bad when Winter is as cozy as a HAY duvet! 🛏️ Bundle up with us to see what our studio has in store for you for the colder months! 🥰

100+ FLAVOURS 🍽️

If we're the eyes, then Studio H is the mouth. 👅

Last week they launched 100+ Flavours, a comprehensive digital report on SA's diverse culinary landscape, highlighting regional and cultural variations influenced by ancient and modern traditions. 🤍

100+ Flavours is the first taste report available on Studio H’s new digital culinary resource hub. Through their work with mostly food brands, they've identified an urgent need for accurate archiving of local food knowledge. What an important resource! 👩‍🍳

This report was created in collaboration with food anthropologist, Dr Anna Trapido and a group of over 40 brilliant and incredibly generous food experts. 🍋

MAKE WAY FOR CREATIVE THINKING 💭

As LOOKBOOK Studio we're proud to foster creative conversation, in print and in real-life too! 💡

Creative friends in the industry, Bielle Bellingham, Claire Johnson (of Hoick) and Max Melvill (of The Ramp), will be exploring the thoughts and ideas posed by Bielle's manifesto (swipe to see p28 of House and Leisure Volume 8 'Create') in their second, of many, round-table talks. 🪑

Come together with like-minded creatives, industry peers and curious members of the community to chat about the positive (and negative) spaces around creativity, as well as understanding the physical and mental environment in which creativity exists. 🌈

We all feel it, but we rarely talk about it... 👀

DINING WITH FRIENDS 🍽️

We love what Michal Turner is creating, and where her creativity started... 💡

'I started drawing on a whim in 2019. I couldn't find any pens or paper so I drew inky figures with my eye liner pen on the back of a till slip! I love using interesting materials on unexpected surfaces. I've taken my inky people onto embroidery and most recently ceramic plates. I think they would be a fun conversation starter at dinner, but I also think people may want to keep them as art and hang them on the wall.' – Michal 🎨

This year, we collaborated with KLuK CGDT to reimagine their Lisbon apartment (which is featured in our latest issue, Volume 8 : Create) and used it as inspiration for our stand.

When the LOOKBOOK colours were abound at a dream shoot location, The Lord Milner Hotel in Matjiesfontein, it felt like kismet 🛎️

Not to mention the sentimental attachment the team has to this bygone world, set in the Great Karoo: it was like jumping into wonderland, with inspiration in every trinket, tile and time warp touch 💫

A SENSE OF PLAY 🌈

With an affinity for colour and design, Arrange Studio () have brought their range into a new light, with a shoot to reimagine their existing products and introduce new friends… 🥂

Feeling familiar and fresh at the same time, this shoot highlights the eye-catching colour palette of the now iconic Paradise Light collection (slide 3), as well as their newly launched Staple bench (slide 2) and Curves Collection rugs in collaboration with (slide 1), a member of the family 🎨.
