FRANSJOHAN PRETORIUS | TWEEDEPRYSWENNER VAN DIE 2024 CHRIS BARNARD-PRYS

Fransjohan Pretorius is emeritus-professor in geskiedenis aan die Universiteit van Pretoria. Hy het sy kwalifikasies aan die Universiteit van Pretoria, die Rijksuniversiteit van Leiden en die Universiteit van Suid-Afrika verwerf.

Hy is die skrywer en/of redakteur van agt boeke oor die Anglo-Boereoorlog. Hy het die Recht Malan-prys, die Ou Mutual-prys en die Rapportryersprys vir sy boek Kommandolewe tydens die Anglo-Boereoorlog ontvang. Die Engelse uitgawe, Life on commando during the Anglo-Boer War, was die naaswenner van die Sunday Times Alan Paton-toekenning. Hy het ook die Stalsprys vir geskiedenis van die Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns, die Prestige-prys van die FAK, die Rapportryersprys en die Jan H. Marais-prys ontvang.
Hy is redakteur van Geskiedenis van Suid-Afrika: Van voortye tot vandag.
Hy was tussen 2005 en 2022 voor-sitter van die Geskiedeniskommissie van die Suid-Afrikaanse Aka-demie vir Wetenskap en Kuns.

Hy is getroud met Laurette, buitengewone professor in rekenaarwetenskap aan die Universiteit Stellenbosch. Hulle het drie kinders en vier kleinkinders.

ALBERT MARITZ | WENNER VAN DIE 2024 CHRIS BARNARD-PRYS

Albert is 'n gevierde Suid-Afrikaanse akteur, vervaardiger/regisseur en skrywer.

Hy tree op in gesogte teaterproduksies soos die eenmanstuk, "Stander", "Die Toneelstuk" van Breyten Breytenbach, en musiekblyspele soos "Heidi" en "Rooikoppetjie".
Die Artes-toekenning word aan hom toegeken as beste akteur vir sy vertolking van "Herman" in die televisiereeks, "Konings". Onlangs was hy te sien in die reekse, "Een keer om die son" en "Kelders van Geheime".
Internasionaal werk hy aan films in die geselskap van Clint Eastwood, Matt Damon en Morgan Freeman, en beskou sy hoogtepunt as akteur toe hy die pa vertolk het in "'n Man soos my Pa".

As vervaardiger/regisseur bring hy stukke op die planke soos Chris Barnard se "Pa, maak vir my 'n vlieër, Pa" en "Taraboemdery". Hy regisseur nóg 'n Chris Barnard-produksie, "Die Rebellie van Lafras Verwey" wat Fleur du Cap-toekennings verdien vir regie, beste akteur en gewildste produksie.
Hy skep films soos "Lenteblom" en musikale dokumentêre vir TV soos "Elders aan Diens".

As skrywer brei hy sy bydrae tot ons kultuurskat uit en verdien gesogte toekennings vir poësie en kortverhale.

SOUND BEFORE WATER | COMING SOON
(South African edition)

This lovely volume of poetry by Jim Pascual Agustin went to print this morning.

Agustin, originally from the Philippines, has lived in South Africa for 20 years and has published several books, yet his work here is little known.
Sound Before Water is a rich collection of quietly astonishing poems organised into five sections.
In the simplest language, he inks a duo of vulnerability and steely strength into each poem.
Exile, belonging, homelessness and randomness are some of the topics he touches in these political and personal poems. Survival, the invisibility of threat, the ache of connections to loved ones, to animals and to the elements, are just some of his thematic threads.
Agustin's poetry is direct and lucid, lyrical and sharp, poised and polished. I cannot remember when last I read a collection in which every poem was so affecting.

As an independent publisher, Minimal Press seeks to discover fresh voices and compelling stories that align with our commitment to high-quality literary works.
We are particularly interested in works that push boundaries, engage readers, and reflect diverse perspectives.
Whether you are an emerging author or a seasoned writer, this is an opportunity to have your manuscript considered by a publisher that values creativity and originality.

Submission guidelines:

Open to all authors, both local (South Africa) and international.
Manuscripts can be of any genre, but we are particularly interested in literary fiction, poetry, children's books and thought-provoking non-fiction.

Manuscript Format:

Submit the manuscript as a Word document (.doc or .docx).
Use 12-point, Times New Roman font.
Double-space the text and include page numbers.
