10 YEARS IN JAIL FOR LOCAL RA**ST

On April 30, 2024, Milford Equal Lesele, was given a ten-year prison sentence for the r**e of a 19-year-old girl in Steelpoort, after a lengthy court proceeding which started in 2022.

The sentence imposed on twenty-nine year-old Mr. Lesele, is related to an incident of r**e that happened on the 1st of May, 2022.

Investigations as they were led by Sergeant Jacob Letsatsi Mojalefa of the Burgersfort FCS Unit, told a story where the young girl innocently hitchhiked Mr Lesele's white toyota Quantum, in an attempt to reach her place of residence, on the way back from visiting her boyfriend.

Little did he know that Lesele had other horrific plans for her, as he passed the point where she had to alight from the taxi and proceeded towards Steelpoort, where he forcefully undressed and r**ed her.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said Mr Lesele was placed under arrest after the girl opened a case with them, but was later granted bail, whilst investigations were still conducted.

He further noted that Sergeant Mojalefa investigated the case meticulously in linking the suspect to the crime, which led to his conviction at the Burgersfort Regional Court.

Mr Lesele now aged thirty-one (31) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

KGOSI MOHLALA LAID TO REST WITH GRAND CEREMONY

Amid a haughty parade and blasts of trumpets, the late King Masiya William Mohlala was laid to rest today afternoon, 04 May 2024, following his untimely death on the 16th last month.

This took place at the Babina-Kgomo Tribal Authority's grounds in the little settlement of Ga-Malemane, in Diphale.

The premature demise of King Mohlala, who was seventy-five (75) years-old, followed a protracted struggle with a sickness that cannot be revealed because of the family's privacy.

The consecutive addresses, depicted the fallen traditional leader as a strong individual who braced many life storms and challenges.

Dr. Dickson Masemola, a prominent politician in Limpopo, spoke kindly of the late king and described him as a unifier of the people.

"When we were given a mandate to form the ANC in is province, Kgosi Mohlala was one of the
Individuals to support us" said the ANC stalwart.

Mr Masemola further urged the royal family and their subjects not to despair but unite, as well as to support each other through this time of anguish.

Subsequent to the funeral service, three Diphale residents were visited by 37.5 Herald Journalists without prior arrangements, and they expressed the same views as the speakers who stood on the platform during the funeral service.

However one of the residents, speaking under anonymity, made a number of allegations - which at the time of writing, we were unable to verify.

"Yena mokgalabje ne asena bothata, go bontsh*tse le thekgo yewe a filweng yona tsatsing lena" she asserted, as loosely translated "The support he received this day, showed that he is without guile".

The heads of the tribal authorities, Dr. Kgosi Mashishi, Kgosi Manyaka, Kgosi Mampuru, Kgosigadi Mohlala, and Kgosi Selepe, were among those who honoured the event to pay their respects.

In addition to them, representatives from the African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters, Zion Christian Chirch (ZCC), Marula & Modikwa Platinum Mines, local businesses and forums.

PRAKTISEER CLINIC IN THE SPOTLIGHT AGAIN AS HEALTH BOSS VISIT LOOMS

On May 13, 2024, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, the MEC for Health in Limpopo, is scheduled to visit the Praktiseer Clinic, which is situated not far from Burgersfort.

The aim of the visit will be to activate twenty-four (24) hour health care services, as well as to address the various challenges plaguing the healthcare centre.

According to the MEC the initiative aims to address the increasing demand for round-the-clock medical services, particularly in rural areas where patients often endure long journeys to access care.

The clinic was thrusted into the spotlight after a series of complaints made their way on the various social media platforms, ranging from water shortages, inadequate healthcare and shortage of healthcare professionals.

Reports circulating suggest residents often have to return home without receiving assistance, in addition to the burden of having to carry their own water from home.

A similar incident occurred late last year, when a woman gave birth inside a vehicle outside Burgersfort Clinic, it came less than a fortnight after another woman gave birth at the clinic’s gates on October 11.

Even though many are embracing the 24-hour healthcare service initiative, other have expressed concern as to how the system will cope.

The MEC recently activated the 24-hour healthcare services, at De Vrede Clinic.

LIMPOPO MEC IN BOTSWANA TO LAY TO REST 45 VICTIMS OF BUS CRASH

Limpopo Health MEC, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, on behalf of the South African Government, attended the mass funeral service of the forty five (45) citizens of Botswana, whose lives were lost in a horrific bus accident at the Mamatlakala bridge, in Waterberg District.

The victims were on their way to the Easter pilgrimage at the St. Engenas Zion Christian Church in Moria, prior to the horrific ordeal.

An eight-year-old child was the sole survivor when the bus carrying 46 people fell 50 metres from a bridge in into a ravine and caught fire.

Rescue efforts continued into the night where it was found that some bodies were burnt beyond recognition and others were trapped by the debris or scattered over the crash scene.
