Dancehall Icon Sean Paul released a track called “Bring It” on a rework of the classic Showtime Riddim this month. Dutty Rock Productions, the music label owned by the Grammy Awards-winning artist announced that the new single is a fresh take on the beloved dancehall Riddim. Through this latest single, Sean Paul brings a modern twist to the iconic beat from 1997 that has captivated audiences for decades. The Showtime Riddim, originally crafted by the legendary Dave Kelly, has stood the test of time, as highlighted in a recent Rolling Stone article as one of the “25 Riddims That Have Defined Jamaican Music”. Known for hits that defined the 90s and beyond such as “Bashment Party” by Shaggy and Rayvon, and Spragga Benz’s “We No Like,” the riddim continues to resonate with fans worldwide.

In an 2022 interview with Vibe Magazine, Sean Paul expressed his admiration for the Showtime Riddim, citing it as a standout beat, on which he wished he could have voiced when it was first made. Fast forward to 2024, and Sean Paul's wish has become a reality with the release of "Bring It," a track that pays homage to the golden era of 90s dancehall.

Honoring History

Celebrated as one of the most influential dancehall producers in history, Dave Kelly has made a lasting impact on the music scene with timeless riddims such as Pepperseed, Joy Ride, and the dancehall epitome Showtime Riddim. The modern interpretation of Showtime Riddim by Dutty Rock Productions reflects Kelly's innovative style and enduring influence on artists and producers worldwide.

"Bring It" not only showcases Sean Paul's signature sound, but also breathing new life into the classic riddim with a contemporary flair. It is set to become the ultimate party anthem, inviting audiences to hit the dance floor and celebrate the timeless allure of dancehall music. Sean Paul's fusion of nostalgic vibes and contemporary beats promises a thrilling musical experience for fans old and new.

Sean Paul's track record of successful collaborations with artists like Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, KaRoL G, and Sia solidifies his position as a prominent figure in the global dancehall arena.

Xelif and Boomrush Backup unveil their latest musical endeavour, "Curiosity." This mesmerizing single marks a unique fusion of trip-hop vibes with hints of dub and classical undertones.

Felix Rühling, the mastermind behind both Xelif and Boomrush Backup, sheds light on the duality of his artistic identity. He shares, "For me, Xelif and Boomrush Backup represent two sides of the same coin. Boomrush Backup has been the backbone of my musical journey for the past 17 years. As a reggae backing band, we have worked with countless national and international reggae artists. However, my musical palette extends far beyond reggae, encompassing influences from classical training, African gospel vocals, salsa rhythms, to rock and pop guitar. These diverse experiences collectively shape my musical identity."

"In 'Curiosity,' I've found a way to integrate both facets of my musical persona into a singular track," Rühling continues. "It's a testament to the harmonious coexistence of seemingly disparate musical elements within me. 'Curiosity' is not just another track; it's an embodiment of my musical soul."

"Curiosity" serves as a testament to Xelif's ability to transcend genres and create an immersive sonic experience that resonates with the listener.

Protoje is regarded as one of reggae music's most influential artists, and often blends hip hop, soul and jazz into his native sounds of reggae and dancehall. Here he pays homage to the great Bob Marley on this reggae track 'Legend Legend', releasing directly after Bob Marley's birthday and the premiere of the One Love movie. This single follows his most recent hit song "30 Million", and is produced by the UK production duo The FaNaTIX (Nicki Minaj, David Guetta, Koffee, Popcaan).

"When I was writing this song you know I was just vibing and improvising, and when I said "Legend Legend" I thought of Bob Marley's compilation and the idea just came to be creative and use his album and song title names to write the lyrics. My dad (calypso king Mike Ollivierre) when I was younger did the same with one of his inspirations Sparrow, a big calypso star. He used all of his song titles to write a song, and I always thought it was a good concept to pay homage to someone you respect." - Protoje

The Recording Academy / GRAMMYs nominated artist has previously been featured in Rolling Stone, THE FADER and Vogue Magazine, and has appeared on the Tonight Show NET. with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series.
