A message from our creative director:

"Hosted my first event in Bloem in 2016 in collaboration with a friend (Thulani), then hosted a few other events in partnership with different organizations, and late in 2018 I started Radioactive Poetry Cafe which turns 5 this year in October. The journey has been wild and expensive, but definitely worth it. I even forgot that once upon a time, I used to publish digital poetry anthologies for the love of reading and promoting poetry (even though the e-book layouts and designs were below standard).lol

Anyway, I occasionally like to reflect on the work I've done with immense gratitude for the support from volunteers, artists, organizations, partners, communities and everyone that has attended at least one of the events I've hosted. I'm always fascinated by how the events evolve over time, while trying to learn and draw inspiration from other similar events.

The brief pause in hosting Radioactive Poetry Cafe has really helped me a lot, and I can't wait to continue the program later this year. Sometimes it's difficult to evaluate the work you do in the midst of all the planning, executing and documenting. It's also easy to get caught up and just assume that what you're doing is actually valuable to the different audiences you're trying to reach.

I'm really looking forward to how the brand will continue to grow and find creative or innovative ways to stay relevant. A big thanks to everyone that has been part of the journey so far 🙏"
