Why do you need more RAM?
When you first got your computer it was fast but we install updates, load new software and the demand for resources has never decreased. RAM is lightning fast temporary storage used when your computer is running. Unfortunately, the data doesn't get to it fast enough from the hard drive for example but when you've got multiple processes hogging your RAM it will eventually run out and then it has to swap out data between the slow hard drive and the RAM itself to try to keep up. This is evident when you have to switch between open programs and it takes a lifetime to open and let you use it.
If you increase the RAM capacity, you're giving your computer more room to work in. More room means more processes can run simultaneously and no constant data swapping out with the hard drive; only needs to load it once.
Your computer will not always boot faster but once it's booted up it will perform better. Your hard drive's lifespan will also increase since it doesn't need to use some of its space as "swapping space".
If you upgrade to an SSD as well as increase the RAM size to at least 8GB, your PC will undoubtedly turn into a rocket.
