Investing in African Mining Indaba 2025 kicked off with the on Sunday, 5 February in Cape Town, South Africa. In a keynote address on the day Denys Denya, senior executive vice president of the , said that Africa must take bold steps to ‘own’ its resources, and that sustain prosperity for generations to come. He argued that the continent was standing at a crossroads and could either continue exporting its wealth and remain a in the – or, Africa could “act now and work together as governments, financial institutions, investors and industry players to build an Africa where mining is not just about extraction but about transformation, innovation and wealth creation.”

He will retire as chief executive officer (CEO) and executive director of the group, effective 30 September 2025. , currently chief regional officer: Southern Africa region (CRO SA region), will and executive director. He will be appointed as CEO designate and executive director from 1 March 2025, while continuing his CRO: SA region responsibilities.
