In 2006, Founding Editor and Publisher, N’wa Hlungwani (Patricia) recognised a growing gap in the media and communication landscape of Alexandra.

With the objective of developing a unique, comprehensive and sustainable publication, Hlungwani performed a successful case study in the year 2007, and with the support from the Media Diversity Development Agency, Alex Pioneer was launched in November 2008. Through the success of Alex Pioneer, 7 new publications have been launched namely Pioneer Express, Pioneer North, Pioneer Mirror, Pioneer Far

East Rand, Pioneer South, Pioneer Diepsloot, Pioneer Oliven, Pioneer Ekurhuleni and Pioneer West. These titles fall under the Pioneer Enterprise umbrella which is a local publishing and media house. Our vision is to be a content and information leader that dynamically covers Gauteng mainly on topics such as entrepreneurship, career, money, leadership and mentorship. News, entertainment and lifestyle categories are also covered.
