Memory #364 of 365 - Bright and Eerie

Along the river the bank is lined with cars, helping the neighboring farms from eroding away - but down the trail, an old rickety fence marks the border of the haunted forest. The story is solely carried through word of mouth now, many forgetting the tragedies and horrors the trees are said to have seen.

“I ignite the wick, and the firework takes flight. In that moment, I wish my existence were as simple as being set on fire and exploding in the sky.” ― Adam Silvera, More Happy Than Not

Memory #362 of 365 - Haunted Hallways

Halloween is inching closer! Is anyone going to any haunted locations this year? I've done quite a few in the past years, but I don't have anything planned this time.

Memory #360 of 365 - Sunrise Views

This was taken a few years ago, and is one of my favorite traditions. One day during the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic, I wake up before the sun, race to the foothills and try and make it to a look out point before lift off. I was cutting it close on this day, and didn't have all the equipment I wanted, but it was a wonderful experience.

“To photograph is to hold one’s breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It’s at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.” ~Henri Cartier-Bresson

Memory #357 of 365 - An Evening Stroll

Just a mama moose and her calf off on an evening stroll. They came out of nowhere, and crossed the trail right in front of where we were riding, the baby didn't seem to care about us at all. The mama on the other hand, kept checking over her shoulder at us, all the while the baby was practically running circles around her getting all the best snacks.

Memory #355 of 365 - Beaver Swim

Just a little beaver swim as the sunset colors bounce off the water! This little guy came out of nowhere, and is probably the smallest beaver I have ever seen. It went into a really large beaver lodge, so I assume it was part of this year's litter.

Memory #353 of 365 - Seasons Change

The colder weather is starting to set in, in the mountains - it's only a matter of time before snow starts sticking to the ground. That means my hiking and adventures are coming to a close for this year! I'm already missing the long hikes and atv rides, running into random people I know up on mountain summits, and finding abandoned homesteads!

Memory #352 of 365 - The beauty in decay.

The golden ridges in this decaying leaf shined bright in the sunlight. Many people would have probably walked past this beauty, but I stopped dead in my tracks. There's something to be said about the art in decaying.

Memory #351 of 365 - Evil Villain

You can't tell me that this blue heron doesn't look like an evil villain! They look like something straight out of a kid's cartoon, and is currently sneaking around behind the hero's back.

Memory #349 of 365 - Daily Driver Long Since Forgotten

At one point I can only assume this was someone’s daily driving car - but now it sits abandoned in the forest. Mother Nature has taken it over, having sat there for decades, I think it’s safe to say it’s more vines and plants than car now. It’s funny how time does that to us. There was one day where someone drove this car for the last time, parking it where it now sits, and walked off, taking all the car’s old memories with them.

Memory #348 of 365 - Wildlife Watch

Just another walk in the park. These two ducks looked like they were having a great time just wading through the water, and were doing the duck equivalent of “people watching.”

“Spring is beautiful, and summer is perfect for vacations, but autumn brings a longing to get away from the unreal things of life, out into the forest at night with a campfire and rustling leaves.” -Margaret Elizabeth Sangster

Memory #343 of 365 - Old Generation Farming

“An old farm is always more than the people under its roof. It is the past as well as the present, and vanished generations have built themselves into it as well as left their footsteps in the worn woodwork of the stair.” — Henry Beston

Memory #342 of 365 - Belted Kingfisher

While researching a few things about belted kingfishers, I found out that they don't typically nest in trees! They will find a vertical embankment and dig tunnels, with rooms at the end for nesting - I would have never guessed!

Memory #341 of 365 - Birding

One of my favorite birds to spot is definitely the swan, there is something so beautiful about them. But there are a few places that keep the swan decoys in their ponds near me, and I get so disappointed when it turns out to be fake.

Memory #339 of 365 - Forgotten Farm

Decades ago, this particular area was a dairy farm for the surrounding pioneer towns. But as people started to slowly move out of the mountains and onto better things, the dairy business was no longer needed. The farm was phased out, and someone had to go through a collect all the barbed wire from the fences - probably because they intended to use it on the next farm they started. This little coil of wire was left behind, hanging up on a tree branch, one of the only physical reminders that the dairy farm ever existed.
