This is what New Year’s looks like in our town of Halloween! 🎃 The village of Sleepy Hollow, NY was incorporated in 1874 so this year marks 150 years! The first official pumpkin drop kicked off the new year filled with festivities! A 750lb pumpkin was unveiled with a commemorative painting by @timgrajek 🎃 Stay tuned to the @villageofsleepyhollow for a year long of celebratory events! 🎉 P.S. Fun facts: this legendary village was settled by the Dutch in the 1600s and the area was known as “Sleepers’ Haven”, then incorporated in 1874 as North Tarrytown, and in 1996 the village changed its name to Sleepy Hollow in honor of Washington Irving’s short story from 1820 📚
“Twas the Night Before Christmas” turns 200 this December 23, 2023!🎅 Clement C. Moore wrote the beloved poem for his own children in NYC 1822 and the following year of 1823 it was published anonymously in the Troy Sentinel Newspaper in NY under the title of “A Visit from Saint Nicholas”. Since then, the poem has brought the spirit of Christmas to families for two centuries! Step back in time to an elegant Gilded Age Christmas ✨🎩 You may recognize Lyndhurst Mansion as a filming location for the @gildedagehbo, and we’ve yet to see season 2 (so no spoilers please). The mansion truly dazzles during the holidays and we were delighted to attend the members holiday party where we could take in all the spectacular decorations (and film with permission). How many Christmas trees can you count?
