FROM CC – In the progressive scheme, it is impossible to trace to its historical roots an idea such as the American Republic or the divinely promised permanence of the Christian church, because all roots have been uprooted and tradition is no more than the time and place in which we stand, alone and defenseless against the onslaught of time and chance. Nothing is more impermanent than the passing moment. If we cannot stand on a Rock, we cannot maintain our balance on shifting sands.

Columnist for the New York Times Ross Dothat, a reliable guide in Catholic matters, tells us in a recent column – “Pope Francis and the end ...

FROM CC -- Little is known of Mary Magdalene because, unlike other of the familiar gospel authors, she left no writings to posterity.

Among Catholics, Mary Magdalene is known as “the apostle to the apostles.” The gospel of John tells us why: Now Mary stood outside the...

FROM CC – We’ve been there, done that. The thing has not worked, cannot work unless ambitious neo-progressive Sanders socialists are successful in repealing the free market system. That route leads to autocracy and away from the liberty of non-government controlled free exchanges. When in the postmodern period have Marxist-Leninist useful-idiotologies not led to gulags and empty shelves?

FROM CC – Ritter “wants Gov. Ned Lamont to declare a fiscal emergency, a move that would allow the state to get around fiscal guardrails.” So far, Democrat Governor Ned Lamont appears to be standing firm against such measures but, given the drift of the Democrat Party to the left over the last few decades, Lamont may be a thin reed. Neo-progressives Democrats looking lustfully at the state’s surplus no doubt are asking themselves, as always – what is the point of having absolute power if you are not prepared to abuse it.

FROM CC – Murphy has enormous political advantages in Connecticut, as deep blue a state as faltering California. Some have said that Murphy is Connecticut’s Gavin Newsom, another lean and hungry neo-progressive now dressing himself up as a “moderate” Democrat. Winston Churchill used to call such political pretenders “wolves in wolves’ clothing.”

FROM CC – Final presidential vote counts demonstrated that none of it worked, and some Democrat Party anchorites have concluded correctly that the politics of personal destruction is not nearly enough to assure election victories, though harsh condemnations have played a significant role in party politics since the first significant appearance of parties during the tumultuous John Adams-Thomas Jefferson race in 1796.

FROM CC – There are two kinds of corruption in our politics: hidden and revealed. Instances of corruption revealed are but the tiny tip of an iceberg. If Connecticut’s one-party state could boast concerning its political victims, it might say it has successfully managed over the years to reduce revealed corruption by smothering it with a blanket of silence or, failing that, by moving corruption into the hidden column.

There are two kinds of corruption in our politics: hidden and revealed. Instances of corruption revealed are but the tiny tip of an iceberg....

FROM CC – One can almost hear increasingly cynical energy users – all of us – whispering behind their hands, “Sure, sure, let’s revisit the pretense of reducing energy costs in, say, two years.”

FROM CC -- These revelations, if true, may not be conducive to a smooth divorce, but will they adversely impact Murphy’s political future? Wives and husbands looking forward to a separation and possible divorce that will end in “mutual support” on both sides are sometimes put off by such disclosures. Need one mention that Murphy’s possibly distressed wife is a lawyer in Washington D.C. who in the past has smilingly supported her husband’s thus far successful political career.

It’s the New York Post , and so there are pictures. One shows Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy canoodling with “Courier Newsroom publisher T...

FROM CC -- When prescribing texts to be read by children attending grades K-8, a sound rule of thumb might be: If the text cannot be printed “as is” within the editorial and news pages of major newspapers, it ought not to be displayed approvingly to children over the sometimes heated objections of their parents. Duff’s proposed bill overrules this commonly accepted cultural rule: The parents of underage children should determine the morality of their households.

Public morality, some Connecticut Democrats are discovering, cannot be legislated or created from whole cloth. Douglas Kechijian from ...

FROM CC – Small “r” republicans find that Cicero and Adams are closer to them – indeed, more alive to them – than a whole universe of modern politicians. “It does not take a majority to prevail,” said Adams to a tepid future generation, “but an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.” Connecticut, now a one party state, could use a few “brushfires of freedom” if republican virtues in the state are to remain at a boil. Weicker was not a Ciceronian republican.
