The Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ), a leading training institution for professional journalism, is inviting applications from both practicing and aspiring journalists into its full time and weekend journalism programmes.

1. Programmes and Entry Requirements.

a) Certificate in Journalism
Applicants should be holders of a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), with at least four credits, including English.

b) Diploma in Journalism.

Applicants should be holders of a Certificate in Journalism or its equivalent or any related higher qualification from a recognized institution.

Applicants with a tertiary qualification must also provide a proof of their journalism work, such as an article in a publication and a recorded TV or radio program.

c) Bachelor of Arts in Journalism
Applicants into the degree programme must have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent, with a minimum of six credits, including English and at least a Pass in Mathematics, to start in Year 1.

Those with a Diploma in Journalism or related qualification from a recognised institution with a minimum of two years of work experience in relevant field and MSCE with four credits, including English, to start in Year 2.

2. Mode of Application
Application forms can be collected from our centers (Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu) or be downloaded from our website: www.mijmw.com

A non-refundable application fee of MK10,000.00 must be deposited into MIJ bank account as follows:

*DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT!!*
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of one of our fellow Diploma MIJ students, Paul Meleka.

Paul was involved in a fatal road accident while traveling from Mangochi today.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

The funeral service will be held tomorrow in Zomba at Airwing, where Paul was residing with his family.

We kindly request that representatives from MIJ school attend the ceremony to pay our respects.

May his soul rest in peace.

It is with deepest sorrow that we inform you of the untimely passing of one of our students, Sydney B. P. Malombe.

Until his death, Sydney was a Diploma Student and Students Union Representative at Blantyre Campus. MIJ has lost a cheerful and dedicated student.

The funeral programme will be communicated in due course.

Announcement: The Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ), a leading training institution for professional journalism is inviting applications from both practicing and aspiring journalists into its fullโ€“time and weekend Bachelor of Arts in Journalism programme for the March - August 2023 semester.

Applicants into the degree programme must have a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent, with a minimum of six credits, including English and Mathematics, to start in Year 1.

Those with a Diploma in Journalism or related qualification from a recognised institution with a minimum of two years of work experience in relevant field and MSCE with four credits, including English, to start in Year 2.

CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FROM CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT SPECIALISTS FOR THE DIPLOMA IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

1.0 Introduction
The Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) is an organization registered as a Trust. MIJ was established in 1995 to improve the quality of journalism in Malawi. It has two main departments; Media Training and Broadcasting. MIJ has tremendously contributed to media professionalism in the country through its training. In the quest to achieve one of its strategic objectives of offering professional programmes that meet the needs of the industry and contribute to the realization of the Malawi Vision 2063, MIJ is set to introduce a Diploma in Project Management programme. To facilitate the process, MIJ would like to engage the services of a Curriculum Development Specialist (s)

2.0 Objective of the Consultancy
The Curriculum Development Specialist(s) shall take up the role and facilitate the process of developing the curriculum for the diploma in project management programme by considering the following:
โ€ข Needs and situational analysis.
โ€ข Setting goals and objectives of the programme.
โ€ข Coordinate course organization.
โ€ข Coordinate the selection and preparation of materials.
โ€ข Conduct evaluation.


2.1 Specific Tasks

The Curriculum Development Specialist(s) will work closely with Management in discharging the following tasks:

โ€ข Conduct desk review for the diploma programme.
โ€ข Develop a curriculum that meets the needs of the industry.
โ€ข Facilitate internal and external review of the developed curriculum.
โ€ข Align the curriculum to local and international standards.

3.0 Deliverables
โ€ข Final curriculum for the diploma programme.
โ€ข Facilitated a workshop for the review of the developed curriculum.
โ€ข Final report for the curriculum development process.

4.0 Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

The Curriculum Development Specialist(s) should have:
โ€ข Masterโ€™s Degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Community Development or any other related qualification;
โ€ข In-depth knowledge and understanding of project management;
โ€ข In-depth knowledge of the minimum requirements of operations for a tertiary institution as required by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE);
โ€ข Proven track record of training curricula development and/or working on developing or reviewing tertiary education-related programmes;
โ€ข Proven ability to demonstrate innovative thinking and stimulate an environment that fosters innovation for curriculum development and training provision;
โ€ข Excellent written and spoken English skills and sound report-writing skills;
โ€ข Ability to contribute to and comfortably work in a small or large group setting;
โ€ข Ability to work independently with strict timelines.

5.0 Engagement Duration
The contract shall span for five months and can be extended depending on agreement with Management.
