FIRST MAJOR HEAT WAVE OF 2025 🥵

Our first major heat wave is set to take effect Sunday and persist through Wednesday. We will be seeing highs reaching the 90s with heat index values reaching triple digits. Please see the attached images for more information on what to expect and how to stay safe in the heat.

GRAPHIC 1: An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Allegheny County PA and surrounding areas, with a Heat Advisory for most of the remainder of the area. Both products are in effect from 11 AM Sunday through 8 PM Wednesday. Dangerous heat is forecast beginning on Sunday, continuing through at least mid week. Use caution.

GRAPHIC 2: The first significant heat wave of the season is expected to begin Sunday and last into next week. Major Heat Risk spreads across much of the region Sunday and remains in place Monday as some areas rise to Extreme Heat Risk.

GRAPHIC 3: Extreme Heat Risk overtakes the region beginning Tuesday and could last through Thursday. The risk for heat related injuries is often cumulative and rises each successive day of the heat wave. Each successive hot day and warm night will raise Heat Risk until the wave breaks late next week.

GRAPHIC 4: Stay safe in the heat! Limit outdoor activities. Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. Wear light-colored clothing and sunscreen. Work outdoors early or very late in the day. weather.gov/heatsafety

GRAPHIC 5: During hot and humid weather, your body's ability to cool itself is challenged in ways you may not expect. When your body heats too rapidly, or when too much fluid or salt is lost through dehydration or sweating, you may experience a heat-related illness. Stay Weather-Ready by learning the symptoms of excessive heat exposure and the appropriate responses.
