It’s important for the community to understand what goes into revising a policy of this magnitude.

Not every suggestion can be added, but it’s also important for Police to understand how the community feels about the policy.

Rachel and I met by chance when my former boss needed me to fill an opening on the morning anchor desk in February, 2020. One month later the world shut down with COVID and we spent two years delivering the news together every morning during one of the weirdest times in modern history. Rachel helped me achieve one of my biggest professional goals, and uplifted me when it all came to an unexpected end.

Today we are both onto new adventures, but this accidental connection has turned into a very intentional friendship. So glad we got to catch up one more time. Best of luck to you and the family in DC!

In the face of a challenging day, these men spent hours answering tough questions about the DOJ report.
Phoenix City Manager Jeff Barton and Police Chief Michael Sullivan accommodated individual interviews with 14 media outlets.
We made time for every outlet who asked. This is what transparency looks like!

With temperatures hitting near 110 degrees, it's not the day for hiking. A friendly reminder: no hikes at Camelback Mountain or Piestewa Peak during Excessive Heat Warnings and it's best to avoid all trails between 9 AM - 5 PM. Help us promote safe hiking practices and support the "Take a Hike. Do it Right." campaign! More info at Phoenix.gov/summer. Stay safe and hydrated!

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Chandler City Manager Josh Wright has announced the hiring of Bryan Chapman as Chandler’s new police chief. Chapman is tentatively slated to begin his new role on April 8, 2024.

“I am excited to welcome Chief Chapman as our new police chief to build upon our culture of service, innovation, and engagement that prevents crime and earns community trust,” said City Manager Josh Wright. “His leadership of the Chandler Police Department will help implement technology, training, and practices to remain one of the nation’s safest cities and one of the top law enforcement agencies in the country.”

Chapman has worked 28 years in law enforcement and served the City of Phoenix since 1999. He has been Phoenix’s Assistant Police Chief for the past three years with responsibility for the Employment Services Bureau, Training Bureau, and Organizational Integrity Bureau. He previously fulfilled leadership positions and assignments in multiple areas of the Phoenix Police Department.

“I am honored to join Team Chandler and work alongside the incredible men and women of the Chandler Police Department,” said Chapman. “Together, and with community collaboration, we will focus on the continuous improvement of the organization to keep Chandler safe for residents, businesses and visitors.”

Chapman is a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Policing and Arizona State University’s Certified Public Manager program. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Toledo.

The Chandler Police Department is recognized regionally and nationally as a modern, transparent agency, continuously maintaining accreditation status for excellence in policing since 1996. Chandler Police have achieved a steady decline in serious crime, now resulting in historically low numbers and rates of serious crime. In the annual budget survey completed in January, 92 percent of Chandler residents said they feel safe.

Chandler conducted a national recruitment for the police chief position. With the assistance of an executive recruitment firm, Mosaic Public Partners, more than 40 qualified candidates were considered. Per the Chandler City Charter approved by voters, the police chief is hired by the city manager. Chapman replaces Sean Duggan, who retired in January 2024.
