Hifi meets Lofi
In the age of everyone being a musician capable of recording and releasing their own material, at quality vastly superior to mid-level studio’s of days gone by, I find myself in an old familiar place. I have been in the music world for almost 30 years now, beginning in NYC’s East Village (220 Park Ave S. & 18th St.) with BMI as Bifocal Publishing in 1991. Having International releases with the Hangman, Butchwax, Hot Productions (Miami) and globa licensing with INGrooves (digital), MTV Networks and The Harry Fox Agency, I have accumulated some interesting experience within primarily the electronic music genre. My story is simple, I am a horn player who loves hip-hop, a match made in heaven since hip-hops shares it’s roots with jazz, the horn fits in seamlessly, allowing me to embrace them both in what is coined “lofi” by the kids today. My approach was something of a hybrid, which I had learned very early on working with many people over the years. I am the principle composer for Bifocal Publishing since it’s inception however I wanted to work with other producers / composers at the onset of this journey to really get into the aesthetic of this genre and stick to writing horn arrangements to completed works, hoping to take them on a new journey, make some new friends and bring life into a track that sits dormant in a back-catalog. The lofi community at large embraced me almost immediately and I have been able to work with some amazing producers to date, even having made a featured appearance on the Chillhop Music “Chillhop Essentials - Winter 2018” release. All of this warm and expedient forward progress lead me to the logical conclusion that I had in fact found my home and hence forth, “lofi Recordings” was born. 2019 is going to be an exciting year of releases with a new album in the works for the first quarter with hopefully 3 more to follow throughout the year, in addition to any and all collaborations I will be doing with individual artists / producers.
