Kajal Bagwandeen becomes FOUR PAWS ambassador 🎉

We are very excited to add a prominent voice to our movement to end animal suffering: South African actress Kajal Bagwandeen has become a FOUR PAWS Ambassador!

Kajal has been a supporter of FOUR PAWS for a few years now and has even visited our true sanctuary, LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary, a few years ago.

As an advocate of animal rescue adoptions, sustainable living, and environmental consciousness, Kajal says: “When FOUR PAWS South Africa approached me to be an Ambassador, I immediately said yes, as it aligns with many of my own values.

I am eager to use this opportunity with FOUR PAWS to make more of us aware of the connection between animals, humans, and the land we collectively live off and share. This, together with highlighting the importance of animal welfare & raising awareness of the integral work being done by FOUR PAWS.”

Sarafina creator Mbongeni Ngema has died

Internationally acclaimed playwright and musician, Mbongeni Ngema has died at age 68.

Ngema passed away on Wednesday evening in a tragic car accident in the Eastern Cape.

Ngema was returning from attending a funeral in Lusikisiki in that province.

Ngema was best known for his award-winning works which include Sarafina and Woza Albert.

Ngema leaves behind a legacy that resonates with the spirit of resistance during the challenging times of apartheid and the liberation struggle.

Our CEO, Anant Singh who is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, attended the 95th Academy Award event in the United States last night.

Speaking from the event he said:

“It's a great year for diversity and for independent cinema, especially with EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE winning seven Oscars while ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT garnering four awards and THE WHALE taking two awards. It is exciting that these films won the big awards this year. It is also thrilling that the Indian film industry won its first two Oscars ever: the Telegu film, RRR winning the Oscar for Best Original Song and THE ELEPHANT WHISPERERS in Tamil, picking up the Best Documentary Short Film award.

It is also significant to note that this year marks 21 years since Halle Berry won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in MONSTER'S BALL, the first-ever for a black woman and, today 21 years later, Michelle Yeoh from Malaysia takes home the Best Actress Oscar. It is encouraging that there is a change in the trend at the Academy Awards where we are seeing people of diverse ethnicities, especially women being honoured. I believe Africa’s turn is coming to win major awards.

I congratulate all the winners and the filmmakers involved for their achievements in the 95th Academy Awards.”
