‘Fish are friends, not food’ 🐟

Although it was a big jump, this little fish leaped straight into the jaws of the bald eagle. The change in the current didn’t help either, but many of its friends survived the journey 🌊

Coastal Wolves 🐺

Wolves are a vital part of British Columbia’s wilderness. These intelligent animals form close-knit packs, usually made up of family members, working together to hunt and care for their young. Unlike solitary predators, wolves rely on teamwork and communication, often covering large territories in search of food.

British Columbia is home to both coastal and interior wolves. Coastal wolves (like the one you see in the photo), unique to the region, are strong swimmers and often hunt marine life, such as fish and even seals. Interior wolves, on the other hand, typically prey on larger mammals like deer, moose, and elk.

A wolf's howl can be heard from up to 10 kilometers away, serving as both a communication tool and a way to reinforce social bonds within the pack.

Taking a look back at my first coastal wolf interaction on International Wolf Day 🐺

It was a privilege beyond belief to be able to see this wolf in its natural space, and observe how she interacted with the landscape.

It’s important for us to remember that we’re in their space and to celebrate that we get to share this planet with such a remarkable species 🌎

Someone doesn’t realise how photogenic they are 🐻

It was a pretty special moment being able to sit in silence with this very content individual. This lone black bear wondered up the coastline sniffing out snacks on the rocks, with the occasional ear scratch in between. It’s moments like this in the wild that help me reflect on the space we live in, and how fortunate we are to share it with these incredible creatures 🙌🏻

Meal time 🐟

Watching this event take place was unbelievable. Hundreds of eagles in one area taking advantage of the tidal changes pushing the fish to the surface. I’ve never felt more conflicted about which direction to point the camera, there was action everywhere. Thanks to for having us and being patient with us whilst we geeked out on nature 🦅

Look at those eyes 👆🏼

We were very fortunate this week to spend some time with this beauty roaming the shoreline for a bite to eat. It was the most peaceful experience just sitting in silence, with the sun shining and the waves trickling in.

I’m still convinced that a huge predator like our local black bears shouldn’t have ears like that 🐻

This will be a night to remember 🌌

Last night I wrote “this is the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen. The aurora is pulsating, the sky is exploding above us”.

It was just the other day I was talking about planning a trip to go north to try and witness this explosion of colour and light. How lucky we are that this event showed itself to so much of the planet. It felt like for one night so much of the world stopped still in awe, nothing else mattered but this spectacle above us acting as a friendly reminder to keep our heads high and appreciate what’s around us 🙌🏻

What an incredible experience.

Thank you for the 📸

In my natural habitat 🎥

There’s nothing I enjoy more than roaming the wild and seeing the jigsaw pieces that make up how the natural world exists. Standing beneath these ancient old-growth trees with speckles of light passing through, just enough to allow layers of succession across the forest floor. Succession that feeds the black bear population I’ve been fortunate enough to spend time with since moving to British Columbia. As a filmmaker and storyteller I believe it’s vital to understand and appreciate the world that you wish to uncover. Spend time in it, listen to it, what do you feel when you’re there. Only then can you really convey a strong message about how to protect it 🌳 🐻

Target acquired, raptor inbound 🦅

The herring spawn around Vancouver Island is always complete carnage with a huge array of species benefitting from the little guys 🐟 These photos were taken at an opportunistic stop-off on a drive to Tahsis last week and it was well worth it 🙌🏻
