Dimitri aka SYLK has been tightly woven in the west coast bass scene for 7+ years. Teaching himself Ableton after graduating high school in 2011. Seeking further knowledge Dimitri pursued music school in LA in 2014. This lead to being immersed in the west coast festival circuit, where he gained many friends that shared his passion for music, community, and sharing different personal approaches to creating and composing.

SYLK is a very emotionally steered project with hip-hop and trap drums being the back bone. Lots of the productions are in the moment creations, striving to produce something unique. SYLK has tendency to be complex and very intricate. He has been told before he has presence of story telling in his audio soundscapes.

In this mix I was aim to share some of the new sounds that have been inspiring me as of late. Some of these tracks are heavier than I normally would play, but I have found that this sonic journey I am on is consistently changing and I am finding new sounds (heavier, grittier, full spectrum bass, some UKG) to be more appealing! I have also sprinkled in some SYLK originals to share what I’ve been making in the last couple years.

PS. Shout out Mr. Carmack you are the GOAT! That’s why I play 3 of his tracks. Also special thank you to the EAZYBAKED boys, VIDE, and Milano you all are and inspiration to the bass music community, you all push the boundaries!

Ahkur is the pseudonym of Los Angeles native Dillon Bush. Throughout his music career, Dillon has developed into a skilled producer with a nuanced yet unorthodox style. He has established his presence through releases on international labels such as Foundation Audio (UK), After Dark Music (AUS), Defy Culture (USA), Silent Motion (USA), and Sub Garden (DE).

This mix includes a ton of released/unreleased material, as well as music from friends, family and tunes he's been enjoying lately. As a dedicated performer and member of the underground LA dubstep scene, Ahkur is one of the up-and-coming artists to look out for.

One of your favorite dubstep producer's favorite producers and recent Portland transplant by way of the UK, Combine has stepped up and delivered and absolute sheller of a mix for episode 137 of the Sublimix. You've most likely already heard his tunes in clubs and at festivals across the US for the last year or so and shouted for an ID on the track, now you can put a face and sound to the name. You can expect to see this name regularly in the future with a slew of upcoming releases for some of his debut 140 productions. Make sure to dive into his DnB catalogue as well!

She is currently based in Vancouver, BC where we recently had an opportunity to chat in the BSide Radio Studio. I have always enjoyed her sets when I get the chance to see her perform live as a Bass Coast staple! With 20 years on the decks, you can trust that she knows how to steer the dancefloor with laser precision!

"Junglist since I was 16, I have to admit that D’n’B hasn’t been something I can claim a lot of experience in. So, for this mix I was really excited to explore. After scouring the internet to pinpoint my style – something that would bring some of the darker vibes of d’n’b and all the rudeness of jungle. Well, genre reveal? She’s a minimalist jump up queen (lol).
I had fun on a sun dampled afternoon recording this mix, and I hope it makes you screwface skank too.

Expect some acid arps, broken beats, the occasional piano line, spicy grime flips and a few curveballs.

“It feels great to start off the year with a fresh mix to show folks what I’ve been digging lately. This is a bit of a long mix within a more defined sonic palette. I love to mix across the spectrum but this recording feels simultaneously more controlled and more explorative. This mix cover 44 tracks of some of the sounds that have captivated me heavily over the last few months (and years). The high energy dancefloor vibes have really gotten me moving no matter how I’m feeling. Lots of fresh ideas incorporating and combining elements across Acid, UKG, Grime, Dubstep, Breaks, Jungle, Footwork, Club, Juke, Hardcore, Jungle, and DnB.

I also want to acknowledge that this is in no way a perfect mix. These days, I find more appreciation from the imperfections in a set and how someone recovers than I do a perfectly polished set. “There is a lot we experience that we often cannot find the words to communicate. Music can bridge and fill these language voids to provide an outlet of expression and a vessel to communicate those experiences with each other... In this journey mix I started by exploring a tribal trippy aesthetic with dubbed-out ambient techno that progress into heavier cuts. The mood then burrows down into deeper emotive territory, ascending in BPM to sparse minimal breaks and d&b. The tension steadily builds but there is light at the end of the tunnel and the mix reaches a peak of energy, breaking out into euphoric jungle before reducing pace to reach its final destination.

I really lost myself in this one! I hope it is as cathartic for listeners as it was for me to record it x”

Producing under the moniker Slurgeon, Michael Reese is a fixture in the Portland beat scene. He is a co-runner of the nine years strong monthly producer showcase Thirsty City, which has been a hub for the city’s vast pool of talented beatmakers. After years of making psychedelic sample based hip-hop, he leaned into his synths in 2020 and hasn’t looked back, experimenting with ambient, footwork, halftime, broken beat, jungle and more. His sound can be described as a maximalist dystopian sci-fi film score perforated by meticulously programmed percussion.

NIKES is a Southwest based musician, record producer, songwriter, and DJ. After a decade long background as a classically trained violinist, 4 years playing rhythm guitar in a Hardcore Metal band, discovering the electronic music world was the key in fusing a multitude of genres to eventually arrive at bass driven club hybrid sounds. NIKES has developed a layered experience pallet in the electronic music world as a co-founder of the internet label Forbidden Trax, and holding 6-year residency at one of Austin, Texas most notorious underground dance clubs, Barcelona. He has participated in a wide array of performances as direct support for artists such as Om Unit, Sam Binga, DJ Paypal, Addison Groove, and Kode 9.
