Part 5 with Vlad Karni talking about the style of his art…..
Could you just describe a little bit your style of art?
I would describe it as something on the edge of abstract and figurative because it's really mixed. Objects you can see on the canvas itself, but also abstract. And since I mostly work in quite a meditative flow state it would not be just figurative art, because while I'm in this flow, and I'm not analysing too much, I'm just doing, I don't know how it's happening, but it's a special process.
Tell me about the name. Shapes of Reality.
Project consist seven canvases because we have seven energy centres, which is the chakra in our bodies.
I was in my room in Shanghai and I had amazing, beautiful tropical plant that I’d bought. It was dark and I had lights on. I had already a canvas on my easel in the room. I just put the light onto this flower and there was a shadow on my wall, which I liked, just the shape of it and I decided, okay, I want to paint it.
So I put the canvas on the other side, with the plant in the centre. Light on one side and the canvas on the other side and I started to work with a pencil. It was a black canvas and then I started to work with beige, light beige, and then I brought colour. That was how it started.
The idea behind is:
Plant - symbol of individual, human, person;
Light - individual conscience, state of mind, vision, life perspective;
Canvas - symbolizes life perception (image) each of us have.
It's the vision we get in the end because our life and our vision of life forms our consciousness, how we feel, how we feel inside. And since I do yoga and meditation for quite long time, at one point, I realised it's really important how we feel inside, because my feeling, inner feeling, forms my interaction with myself and with people around, this World.
