The Ocean View Organic Farmers Cooperative, also known locally as the Kos Gangsters (greedy to grow food not steal it), proves the viability of urban farming. They produce a significant volume of organic veggie boxes on 6 000 square metres of land through direct sales to the public and a veggie box scheme. Since the COVID-19 lockdown, they have established an on-site bakery, built a nursery, opened a cafe and set up a donation scheme where a portion of the price of their products goes to subsidising bread and veggies into local feeding schemes. And more recently they have set up a partner grower scheme in the community, supporting and training others to grow food.

On Wednesday, South Africans across the country were celebrating Worker's Day. In-line with these celebrations, S*x Workers Action Group - SWAG celebrates the marginalised workers, the illegal mine worker, the under paid domestic worker, the unrecognized waste picker, the fishermen that risk their lives in rough seas, and the S*X WORKER that make sacrifices for their families.

Let us celebrate and protect those that do dangerous work and contribute to the ecomony of this country - vote for your Rights, your Freedom, your SWAG!

Today we meet Lara Taylor...

"My drive has always been to share stories that uplift and shift thinking and this is one of the profound aspects of Mycelium – through sharing projects and experiences, we aim to create a sustainable future and to have fun whilst doing it!"

Producer, director, videographer and editor of Content Lounge, Lara Taylor, comes from a Social Anthropology background and has been telling stories and making films for the NPO & corporate sector for over 18 years.

Her company is a full-house, digital agency offering videography, photography, research, writing, producing, editing, directing and training. Most recently Lara has branched out into social media, bolstered by the proliferation of social media platforms and the huge demand for short sharp ‘webisodes’. She produces video clips, web series and interviews on her iPhone 8, and is teaching her students to do the same. Participatory filmmaking is a passion and clients have included GroundUp News, Activate Change Drivers Leadership, Forward Fund Film School, Rustenberg Junior and Vredendal High School.
