We get bent when clients show up late. Reminding them of things like construction - especially during the upcoming summer months - may help! March is Pet Poison Prevention Month. Social media is the perfect place to discuss the many types of toxins that our patients can get into, as well as share the number of pet poison control for those times when you are not available to help. My strategy covers the entire month and shares loads of information with clients in the form of content I have created especially for veterinary social media. Contact me to discuss how I can help you make your social media an asset to your practice! [email protected]

Does your practice discuss pet insurance with clients or perhaps recommend one in particular? Advertising pet insurance should be a part of your social media strategy. Research shows that pet owners with insurance on their pets are more willing to spend money on diagnostics and treatment when something goes wrong (which makes a lot of sense!). Your practice should be taking advantage of this type of revenue boost by encouraging clients to find a pet insurance that works well for them.

Today is National Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, and it's a perfect opportunity to discuss a bit of canine nutrition with your clients. Does your pup enjoy biscuits, or does he/she prefer different treats like soft chews or peanut butter-filled? It's important to remember that treats don't replace a balanced diet. Any additional dog biscuits or treats should be fed in moderation to avoid excess pounds that could lead to health problems. If your dog's getting a bit chunky, you might consider switching out the cookies to something like dehydrated chicken, which is pure protein and won't pack on the pounds.

If your practice is in a region where subzero, snow and ice are common, this is the time to remind your clients to buy pet-safe de-icer, to get those winter coats and booties located and ready for use, and to ensure pets that live in unheated spaces have access to a warm building or insulated containers.

November: Pet Diabetes Awareness Month! This is the time to share information about the differences between dogs (Type 1 DM) and cats (Type 2 DM) and the frequency with which pets are diagnosed, AND it's a great time to assure clients that a diabetes mellitus dx is not a death sentence, that this is often a very manageable disease that does not necessarily to affect a pet's lifespan.

Help your clients think about their pets' safety during Halloween and Trick-or-Treat. Remind them to:
1. Put pets away in another room. Play music to muffle the sound of the doorbell and give dogs a bone or chew to help occupy them. Keep cats shut away so they can't sneak out under cover of darkness.
2. If a dog or cat is noise-averse, you could offer medication to help them be less stressed by the repeated sounds of the doorbell or other noises. Use a Call to Action to invite clients to contact you.
3. Remind clients to leash dogs to prevent them from dashing out the door OR from rushing the kids.
4. And be sure to remind them - candy is for KIDS, not dogs and cats. Avoid accidental poisonings by keeping candy shut away out of animals' reach. ER visits can ruin a budget AND the fun!

Does your practice have an online store? (You should! It can boost compliance with preventative medicine and is a great way to keep many clients from ordering meds from online sources that may not adhere to strict protocols. This way, you know drugs are the real deal.) Many veterinary online pharmacies will offer social media graphics to share with your clients. Regularly posting encouragement to try your online store boosts name recognition and ups the percentage of your client base ordering from your online store. This particular graphic is from Vetsource.
