Rahul Gandhi says reservation remark ‘misinterpreted’: ‘Let me make it clear

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday issued a clarification regarding his remarks on “ending reservation” during his ongoing US visit, saying his comments were “misinterpreted”.

The Leader of the Opposition was facing backlash for saying the Congress party would “end reservation” when India is a fair place.

Issuing a clarification on his earlier remarks, Rahul Gandhi said he is not against reservation, and his party will take the reservation beyond 50 per cent if they come into power.

Yesterday someone misrepresented my statement that I am against reservation. But let me make it clear – I am not against reservation. We will take reservation beyond the limit of 50 per cent,” Gandhi said at the National Press Club in the US.

The Congress MP's comment on reservation came on Tuesday when he was interacting with the students and faculty members of Georgetown University in Washington DC

IAF Officer accuses Wing Commander of r**e, claims IC probe closed to 'hide' mistakes

A Srinagar-based female flying officer in the Indian Air Force has lodged a police complaint accusing a senior Wing Commander of r**e. An FIR has been registered at Budgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir, where both officers are stationed in Srinagar.

The IAF has stated their cooperation with the investigation, saying, "We are aware of the case. Local police station Budgam has approached the Indian Air Force in Srinagar in this matter, and we are fully cooperating with the local authorities,"

Delhi court grants interim bail to Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid till October 2

Delhi's Patiala House Court granted interim bail to Sheikh Rashid alias Engineer Rashid, a member of parliament from Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla constituency, till October 2 in a terror funding case.

Rashid has been in Delhi's Tihar Jail since 2019 after being arrested in 2017 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the 2017 terror-funding case.

Situation in Gaza foremost concern, India supports ceasefire Jaishankar

External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Monday called for a ceasefire in conflict zone as soon as possible

Addressing the First India-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Jaishankar said that the situation in Gaza is the foremost concern.

“India’s position in this regard has been principled and consistent. While we condemn acts of terrorism and hostage-taking, we are deeply pained by the continuing death of innocent civilians. Any response must take into account the principles of humanitarian law. We support a ceasefire as soon as possible,” the minister said.

Supreme Court flags 'missing' paper, warns doctors to resume work

The Supreme Court on Monday urged striking doctors in West Bengal to return to work by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, warning that if their boycott continues, disciplinary action may follow. The top court's directive came while hearing the case of a trainee doctor who was r**ed and murdered at a Kolkata hospital.

A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud pulled up the West Bengal government over its handling of the case, questioning the 14-hour delay in filing the FIR, and also flagging that a key document required for the autopsy was "missing".

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, informed the bench that the challan was not part of their records. "It’s crucial because this column contains what other material was sent along with the body," he said.

Motivational’ speaker arrested in Chennai after ‘humiliating’ visually impaired teacher

A ‘motivational’ speaker, who insulted a visually impaired teacher during a school event in Chennai was arrested Saturday after returning from a trip abroad.

Mahavishnu, the speaker, faced charges of promoting superstitions and publicly humiliating the teacher.

The arrest followed an outcry over the incident, which happened at the Government Higher Secondary School in Ashok Nagar in the city. During a school event meant to motivate students, Mahavishnu, who was invited as a guest last week, had claimed that deformities such as blindness and social inequalities were the result of sins committed in past lives.

Centre discharges Puja Khedkar from IAS with immediate effect

The government has discharged former trainee officer Puja Khedkar, accused of misusing OBC and disability quota benefits in the civil service exams, from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) with immediate effect.

As per the official order dated September 6, Khedkar was discharged under Rule 12 of IAS (Probation) Rules, 1954. This rule provides for discharge on the grounds of a probationer having been found to be ineligible to be recruited to the service.

Fresh violence in Manipur: 5 killed in Jiribam, day after rocket attacks in Bishnupur district

At least five people were killed on Saturday in Manipur’s Jiribam district, where a gun battle erupted between two armed groups after an elderly man was shot dead while asleep.

Article 370 is history, won't be back: Amit Shah ahead of Jammu and Kashmir polls

Article 370 is a part of history, and it will never come back, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday as he released the BJP's poll manifesto ahead of Assembly elections. "I want to make it clear to the whole country that Article 370 has become history and will never make a comeback," the Union home minister said.
