Today I’m Installing a roof top tent to the big girl for some future adventures. I’m glad I rigged up a pully system to lift it 💪

On the 1st of June concrete slab was down

The shed was built over the next few weeks with helps of our friends who traveled up from Brisbane and our neighbour

and we found a place wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow for all those rocks that come out of the ground for the septic tank

Our next big adventure began back at the end of February when we brought an empty block of land that from the arial view looks like a coffin 😂 but has views of Fraser Island

In the past few months we have finished fencing the 3 sides of the property that had none, added water, power, storm water drainage, cut and filled tye slab for the shed, added a basic driveway and a electric gate and we are half way though getting the septic tank in.

We have played the game with council and gotten approval for everything including a shed, which after a 10 week wait was delivered last week, so not yet built

Building from scratch was something we have both wanted to do for many years, even before renovating our last house, so it’s exciting but means we are still living in the caravan.

However with the kids back at school, Kel working full time and Luke being the project manager and Jack of many trades on the block we are making it work in the short term to reach our bigger goals for the long term.

Our first Month in the Bay done ✅

Kids are loving their new schools
Kelly is enjoying working full time and getting a break from the family 😂

Luke is having a turn at being a stay at home dad and living a life of luxury for now 😜 while getting us ready for our next big adventure to hopefully be announced soon

Update on us

We are about to hit 13 months full time in our Caravan and are proud that we have been able to have this experience and also to say we actually survived living in our tin can together for this long, because we all definitely had our days were we hated living in such a small space with each other 🤷‍♀️

2022 was such an amazing year, we have no regrets with all the amazing places we saw and experiences had together and are grateful that the Patrol and Van got us safely around the country.

Most of all though the best part of last year was the new friends we made along the way, so corny I know, but totally true ❤️

As for 2023 we have decided to listen to the kids and respect that they all wanted to return back to mainstream schooling, especially our 14 year old who was most insistent upon this - so far they are all happy at their new schools and doing well making new friends.

So after many frustrating conversations aka arguments 😂 we have picked Hervey Bay in QLD to set up camp for now, it was definitely not easy picking a location to stop at. We only finally picked here two weeks ago.

However this place allows us the ability to explore the places we haven’t yet seen in QLD with our set up and the ability to go back to Brisbane when we want to catch up with family and friends while trying a new location to live in.

As for future housing arrangements - we are still working on that plan, so it’s the Van for us for the time being but we are all looking forward to eventually having our own flushing toilet and a washing machine we don’t have to find coins for 😂😂😂

Our other favourite place we hadn’t taken the patrol was double island point ✅

We got home from glasshouse late Thursday night and then got up early yesterday for a day of adventure at double island point it was a huge day and we didn’t get back to the van til 10:30 last night

We love it here at rainbow and have been many times over the past 15 years, the rain yesterday was intermittent, light and didn’t stop us, we did get some sunshine but it was so good to be back here chilling on the beach, with the view of the coloured sands, while the kids swim in the calm water side

After two big days out we are chilling today and doing nothing 😂

We never got the chance to take the patrol through glasshouse before we left for our trip at the start of the year

All our other 4WDs have had their fun here over the years and now the patrol has too

Update on us

We have been quite on our pages this past few weeks and it was actually nice to have a break, it’s been a fast paced year to say the least

So we are in Brisbane and spent a nice quiet Christmas with family

Luke is working at the moment

And sadly we have also had to come back here to sort out an insurance claim because our belongings that are being stored in a shipping container along with other shipping containers we all broken into and ransacked while we were in WA earlier this year. I won’t go into further details however we are pi**ed off at what we lost but grateful that so far insurance is saying we are covered

As for 2023, well I will let you know when we know 😂 because right now we are still trying to figure that out

Pretty spectacular views from the lookouts but not the best area to find parking with the caravan in tow

The thing with travelling at your own pace is your just never sure you can make it to family events you get invited to

When the RSVP date for a wedding on Luke’s side of the family came around we had to decline because we didn’t think we could get there in time from WA

But last week with the wedding only days away we worked out that with two days of driving we could make it from Whyalla SA to Horsham VIC in time, so we phoned the bride and checked that she still had room for us to attend and that our change of mind wouldn’t cause any troubles ❤️ and here we are

It was a beautiful wedding and we are really grateful we got to be apart of their special day and catch up with all the family that had gathered

Spent yesterday checking out Port Lincoln, walked out on the jetty and drove up to the lookout, nice little coastal port town

Checked out the coastline near mount Hope and camped up on the cliffs but we don’t recommend trying to drive on this beach if your too lazy like Luke was this day to deflate your tyres first 😂

Fly nets, we all know that they are a must!

But you have to keep them in the car and not the van 😂 been stuck without them at the start of our travels a few times because we had them in the van, now they live in the glove box

But I can guarantee that even if you have your fly nets close by, you will still get experience what it’s like to have a fly go up your nose or in your mouth at some point!
