The Gulf Shores Police Department will conduct training in the 19000 block of Oak Road West on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

The training will take place between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Those who live in the area may see a large police presence during the time frames listed and do not need to be alarmed.

Officer Ivan Lopez was killed on Aug. 22 at the intersection of Highway 59 and County Road 36 in Summerdale when a pickup that officials say was driven by Henderson ran through a stop sign at a high rate of speed. Orange Beach went back-to-back and defended its Class 2A crown after it similarly went undefeated in the playoffs. The Makos won their regional circuit with wins over Washington County, Ariton and Long. In the double-elimination state bracket, Orange Beach took down Luverne, Hatton and Mars Hill Bible to advance back to the finals.

The Bayshore Christian Eagle baseball team and the Orange Beach Makos softball squad both captured a second consecutive state championship over the weekend.
