Doesn't get much more official than this:

"Recognizing that these fighter jets must effectively serve the RCAF and Canadians over the coming decades, Canada evaluated these aircraft against typical scenarios familiar to NATO and NORAD allies, which were further tailored to meet the needs of the RCAF, including Canada’s unique northern geography. We are confident that this competitive process will deliver the best results for the Canadian Armed Forces and for Canadians."

The Government of Canada has reached another milestone in the competitive process to purchase 88 advanced fighter jets for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), which will ensure the requirements of the RCAF are met while also providing value for Canadians, generating high-value jobs in Canada as wel...

The continual March forward with progress on hypersonic weapons carries on. NASA is testing hypersonics on their white F-15's (which are a bucket list item for me).

Note I'm doing my best to avoid using some sort of analogy of the Phoenix missile platform rising from the ashes...but I didn't succeed, so here we are.

https://www.sandboxx.us/blog/nasas-plan-to-use-an-f-15-to-launch-hypersonic-phoenix-missiles/

In the early 2000s, NASA came up with a plan to use the Air Force's F-15 Eagle and the Navy's famed AIM-54 Phoenix missile to slash the cost of

*Bias warning. The poster of this message is very much in favor of the F-35.*

These are the kind of articles that make me smile.

"He added that the new Swedish-made Saab Gripen is priced at $85 million per unit, making the Lockheed Martin product more convenient and within the Air Force’s reach. He even stated that, depending on the negotiations, the unit prices of the F-35 can be reduced to a little more than 70 million dollars each."

So if the "too expensive" F-35 is cheaper than the "extremely cheap" Gripen E, does that make the F-35 extremely cheap, or does it make the Gripen E extremely expensive. We're confused.

One thing is for certain...if the price figures are correct, and the price trends continue to make the Gripen more expensive and the F-35 cheaper, that is great news for the F-35, and an absolute disaster for the Gripen E.

https://www.aviacionline.com/2022/01/f-35-cheaper-than-the-gripen/

The Royal Thai Air Force is considering the acquisition of new fighter aircraft, and favors the Lockheed Martin F-35. Among the arguments, in addition to its advanced technology, it is argued that it has a cheaper acquisition price than the Saab Gripen. According to the Bangkok Post, Royal Thai Air....

Congratulations go to the Italian Navy for their first F-35B arriving aboard ITS Cavour

Press release follows:

"07/30/2021
Press release no. 58
Gulf of Taranto, Ionian Sea. Today, 30 July, an F-35B of the Navy is docked for the first time on board the Cavour aircraft carrier, after the test and certification activity carried out with US aircraft during the "Ready for Operations" (RFO) campaign concluded at the end of April this year. This is the third aircraft assigned to the Navy and just withdrawn from the assembly plant in Cameri (NO), while the previous two are in the United States to support the training of pilots of the Armed Force.

“Today we are witnessing the assembly on the Cavour aircraft carrier of the first F-35 of the Italian Navy: a great step towards the strategic objective of providing Defense and Italy with an aircraft carrier capability with the latest generation of aircraft on board. A capacity that projects us into an elite of a few countries in the world, thus raising the level and international weight of Italy ”, said the Chief of Staff of the Navy, team admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.

The arrival of the aircraft represents a milestone in the process of replacing the AV-8B Plus Harriers. The Navy expects to obtain the initial operational capacity (IOC) by 2024 and, subsequently, the Final Operational Capability - FOC, after the delivery of the last aircraft to the Navy.

Arriving on board the aircraft allows pilots to soon begin training in the acquisition of the so-called "Bravo Feature", or the qualification for assembly and take-off from the flight decks of Navy ships, which in the case fixed wing aircraft operating as aircraft carriers (Aircraft Carriers), is called Carrier Qualification (CQ)."
