-Show Description-
The show thrusts jazz into an musically inclusive and social-politically conscious narrative. This show promotes jazz as an forever evolving genre that is a rooted in the Black American Experience that is shared by all. I manipulate the flow of the show, while n
arrating varies musical connections to other genres (like neo-soul,hip-hop, electronic, funk etc.), the atmosphere from which they are inspired, and articulate the work they do as pieces of art. I also report different jazz shows and happenings of Seattle, WA.
-Prior Work-
Like all things before this show hasn't come out of thin air. I have been on a musical journey for the last 15 years which has taken me from Seattle,WA to Durban, South Africa. After many years of music history research, I began my jazz journey with the revival of Franklin High School(Seattle,WA) Jazz Program in 2010. Afterwards I attended Pitzer College and spent 4 intensive years in music performance with such bands as Big Body Nation in the LA area. These years included study and playing jazz in Durban and Cape Town in South Africa in 2012. Also in 2013 I became the Jazz Music Director at KSPC in Claremont,CA. I majored in Africana Studies with a disciplinary focus in History. Much of my work was focused in various music cultures of Jazz, Punk rock, Black American music, American music, and World musics particularly the African Diaspora such as South Africa, where I studied abroad. I am working to become a vanguard of Black music through media outlets for the millennial generation. I believe that these musics are ever evolving inclusive forms. Henceforth Black Roots Radio is the next step of this mission and I invite you to dive into this experiment of musical evolution.
