SDO Santiago reaps awards in 2024 RSTF

SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines—Santiago City delegates garnered awards in 2024 Regional Science and Technology Fair (RSTF) at Santiago City National High School (SCNHS), January 25, 2024.

Two City highers stood at the podium as Aaliyah Dolores plucked 2nd place in Physical Science individual category with her coach Christine Jael Quizano while Rhanee Enma Joven got 3rd place in Life Science individual category with her Coach Katewin Acdal.

Additionally, Danica Dadural won 3rd place in Poster Making elementary level. In Science Skills Olympics, Rezhelle N. Escano, Ruth Daphnie A. Romualdo, and Kyla M. Benigno placed 3rd with their coach Cristine Grace F. Asuncion.

John Jerome Santos, Meryll Jade Fabian, Lucian Tagasa, and their coach Arvin Angelo Matias clinched 4th place in Poster Making secondary level.

The said event ended successfully as the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Tuguegarao won as the overall champion.

2024 reg’l scitech delegates bag CH 1 silver, bronze

SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines— The official researcher delegates of Santiago City National High School (SCNHS) this morning garnered the school a silver and bronze finish during the 2024 Regional Science and Technology Fair (RSTF), January 25, 2024.

Coleen Dolores, an SCNHS Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) student, ranked 2nd in the Physical Science individual category with her coach, Christine Jael Quizano.

Further, Rhanee Joven of the Humanities and Social Sciences strand also finished 3rd in the Life Science individual category together with her coach, Katewin Mae Acdal.

SCNHS also bagged 4th place in the Poster Making category, represented by STEM students, Jade Fabian, John Santos, and Lucian Tagasa with their coach, Arvin Angelo Matias.

Reg'l Science Fair Wraps up in Santiago

SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines - Regional Science and Technology Fair (RSTF) concluded its closing program at Santiago City National High School today, January 25, 2025.

Florante Vergara, PhD, Assistant Regional Director, praised the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Santiago City for the smooth ex*****on of the event.

"SDO Santiago City was able to implement this activity with no appeal," Vergara stated.

The event's success is largely attributed to the collaborative efforts of the Local Government Unit (LGU) and the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Santiago City.

SCNHS concludes RSTF 2025 with Tree Planting Activity

Santiago City National High School (SCNHS) had wrapped up the 2024 Regional Science and Technology Fair with a tree planting activity on January 25, 2025.

Selected representatives from various divisions joined members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) and the Youth for Environmental Schools Organization (YES-O) in the activity.

“The purpose of tree planting in schools is to provide both environmental and educational benefits,” said Michell S. Echurre, YES-O adviser.

“Trees improve air quality, provide shade, and help create a cooler and more comfortable school environment.” she added.

Echurre also noted that the activity aims to raise awareness about climate change and the importance of preserving ecosystems.

CH opens early reg; SY 2024-2025 nears end

SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines – Santiago City National High School (SCNHS) starts early registration for the school year 2025-2026 for upcoming grade 7 and grade 11 students, in line with the DepEd Order No. 009, s. 2024, titled “Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities for the School Year 2024-2025,” on January 25, 2025.

Aimed at ensuring the preparedness of SCNHS to accommodate enrollees, the registration is open from Monday to Saturday until February 28, 2025.

Parents are encouraged to pre-register their children to secure a slot for the next school year. They are likewise advised to contact Angelica B. Besa, Guidance Counselor III for requirements information.

On the other hand, the current school year (SY 2024-2025) is set to end in April.

CH hosts 2024 reg’l scitech fair under new admin

Santiago City National High School (SCNHS) hosted and formally opened the 2024 Regional Science and Technology Fair (RSTF) under the administration of the newly installed school head, Elmerchita Ribuca EdD, last January 24, 2025.

“As a five-day old school head, hindi ako nangapa because I know who to tap and the City High that I’ve known 7 years ago is still the same City High, which has always been the premier school in the city,” an interview with Ribuca stated.

The students from the Special Program in the Arts together with the Busilak Dance Troupe, Himig City High, and Drum and Lyre Corps spearheaded the opening salvo for the said regional scitech fair.

The school principal also mentioned that the SDO Santiago City monitored the CH’s needs, the Local Government Unit (LGU) provided support, and School-Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) President Dr. Rosalie Blanza have been with the school's admin from the start, ready to host the event successfully.

The school’s student organizations, including the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG), The City Icon (TCI), Youth for Environmental Schools Organization (YES-O), the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, were also involved in the three-day event to assist with cleaning and maintaining order within the school.

To accommodate the ongoing event, the school shifted temporarily to alternative learning modes and online classes, ensuring that regular classes continued without disruption.

R02 schools divisions contend for RSTF

SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines – Regional Science and Technology Fair (RSTF) 2024 showcased the discovery and innovation of young innovators from the different schools division in the Cagayan Valley region at Santiago City National High School (SCNHS), January 24, 2025.

Composed of six categories such as Mathematical and Computational Science, Robotics, Life Science, Science Innovation Expo, Skills Olympics, and Poster Making, the RSTF tested the abilities of the delegates to produce and present an experimental research.

In an interview with an individual participant of Science Innovation Expo, Jerwin Bando of SDO Nueva Vizcaya shared his study about sustainable and smart bike helmet having various features including an automatic full detection, sending cyclist information and location should an accident happens.

“It uses wind and kinetic energy to produce electricity; while ‘yong helmet ay maraming features, one of the features is the automatic full detection in which [kapag] natumba ang cyclist, [it will] send information kung saan natumba para makatanggap ng immediate response [‘yong cyclist],” Bando stated.

Meanwhile, the Life Science Team (Mariane Therese Paguirigan, Xyrelle Gwyneth Correo, and Sophia Pesales) from the City of Ilagan stated that they hope to win considering all the efforts they had poured in their study when asked about their expectations from the competition.

“We are not expecting to win but [we are hoping] kasi ang dami po naming binuhos na efforts dito,” the members said.

Winners for the various contested activities will be announced during the awarding ceremony to be held at SCNHS on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

RSTF 2024 kicks off in Santiago

SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines – Department of Education Regional Director Benjamin D. Paragas PhD, CESO III on Friday emphasized the significance of the Regional Science and Technology Fair (RSTF) as a platform to discover the talents and creativity of young innovators who are interested in the field of Science and Technology during its opening program at Santiago City National High School, January 24, 2025.

Anchored with the theme, “Towards a Shared Vision: Exploring the Future for a Better Tomorrow,” the said event aims to instill in the minds of learners that science is pivotal in transforming and introducing improvement of the quality of life.

RSTF runs through January 25, to showcase exceptional inventions, scientific research, and innovative projects developed by over 500 young innovators from the different divisions of Region II.

SDO Santiago City welcomes RSTF delegates

SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines - Schools Division of Santiago City welcomed delegates from across the region as it hosts this year's Regional Science and Technology Fair (RSTF), January 23, 2025.

With the theme “Towards A Shared Vision: Exploring A Future For A Better Tomorrow,” the RSTF aims to hone the scientific and technological skills of the participants.

The fair will be held in Santiago City National High School (SCNHS) on January 24-25 highlighting innovative projects and creativity in science and technology from emerging young scientists of Region 02.

City High welcomes newly installed School Principal

Santiago City National High School (SCNHS) warmly opens their arms to the newly appointed school principal Ma'am Elmerchita B. Ribuca through a short welcome back program during her first flag ceremony in the school's amphitheater today.

According to Ma'am Ribuca, despite leaving years ago, she still remembers her achievements during her term in City High, giving emphasis on how the school has continued to mirror its premiere values.

"Even after so many years, I can still remember every memory in City High, and the excellence is still here in Santiago City National High School, the premiere school in the City".

SPTA holds 2nd quarterly assembly, card distribution

SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines— Santiago City National High School’s Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) held its second quarterly assembly last Thursday, January 16, 2024.

SPTA President Rosalie Blanza tackled concerns regarding future projects and programs to improve facilities around the campus.

Parents went to their respective homerooms soon after the assembly for the quarterly distribution of their children’s report cards.

City High gears students for Work Immersion

Santiago City National High School (SCNHS) conducted an orientation among Grade 12 students together with their parents at the Judge Navarro Hall on January 10, 2025.

According to the Department of Education (DepEd) order No. 30 s. 2024, Work Immersion is a required subject to graduate for senior high school students where learners will be immersed in different real-life and actual work environments.

Further, Ma'am Katewin Acdal and Ma'am Christine Joy I. Julian, the immersion coordinators, answered the concerns of the parents. They also tackled the rules, partner agencies' work ethic requirements, personality of a work immersionist, and pertinent documents.

According to Julian, the orientation served as a way to equip the students with the underpinning knowledge about Work Immersion and prepare them for their application of skills on February 24.

There are moments in life when paths converge when the journey brings you back to where it all began. For Dr. Elmerchita B. Ribuca, the newly appointed Principal II of Santiago City National High School (SCNHS), that moment has arrived. With a rich legacy of service and leadership, her return signifies not just a milestone but a reunion with the heart of a place she helped shape and grow.

Dr. Ribuca’s journey with SCNHS began in 2005, when she first stepped through its doors as a class adviser and subject teacher. Her early years were marked by commitment to her students and her passion for education. Over time, her dedication propelled her to roles of increasing responsibility, culminating in her appointment as Head Teacher in 2012 and Officer-In-Charge in 2017.

Her leadership was soon recognized beyond the walls of SCNHS, and she took on principal roles in multiple schools, the most recent being at Rizal National High School. Despite these successes, Dr. Ribuca’s roots have always remained in SCNHS. Her return is more than just a professional achievement—it is a homecoming, a circle closing with the promise of a bright new beginning.

Dr. Ribuca is not just returning to a place of work—she’s returning to a community that has been part of her journey. The story of SCNHS mirrors her own story of growth, resilience, and transformation. The same way the school has evolved, so has Dr. Ribuca, both as a leader and as a mentor.

Known for her vision, integrity, and transformative leadership, Dr. Ribuca has built a reputation for inspiring change. Her approach to education is one that fosters not only academic excellence but also personal growth, encouraging everyone around her to aim higher and dream bigger. Under her guidance, SCNHS is sure to build on its already impressive legacy while exploring new heights of success.

Dr. Ribuca has returned, not just as a leader but as a symbol of strength and promise that SCNHS holds. This is more than a return. With Dr. Ribuca’s return, SCNHS is no longer merely an institution—it is the place where she has come back to her roots, embracing her purpose and guiding this cherished home toward a future of unparalleled distinction.

CH hosts ex-principal send-off prog; faces new admin

Bidding farewell, Santiago City National High School hosted a send-off program for the former school head, Randy B. Mina, Principal III, at the school’s amphitheater on January 16, 2025.

Attended by teachers and guests, Mina expressed his gratitude to SCNHS as he transitioned as Cabulay National High School’s school head after being promoted to Principal III.

“Sa mga magulang at tagasuporta, maraming salamat sa inyong pagmamahal. Ang inyong suporta ay isang mahalagang sangkap sa aking buhay, habang ako ay magpapatuloy sa paglilingkod sa ibang paaralan, bitbit ko ang ating mga alaala at koneksyon,” Mina stated.

Furthermore, he also sought forgiveness for his lacking during his 4 years at City High in his speech.

“Nais kong humingi ng paumanhin sa aking pagkakamali at pagkukulang na aking hindi nagawa,” he said further.

On the other hand, City High welcomed the school’s new school head, Dr. Elmerchita B. Ribuca, Principal II, who formerly served at Rizal National High School, the following day.

Ribuca will take over Mina from January 20, 2025, onwards, marking the new start of the administration of the said school.
