You can count the number of female paddlers in Futaleufú, Chile, on one hand...some people want to change that. After many riverside matés and floating conversations, the idea to create a kayak course for local teenage girls was hatched. Thanks to a committed group of women, what started as a dream is now an inspirational contribution to the community.
CHICAS AL AGUA, the 2022 film from Chile directed by Liz McGregor, documents this and will be screened as part of the Wild Women Session during the 2024 WILD & SCENIC FILM FESTIVAL.

SO excited to have CHICAS AL AGUA selected for the 2024 No Man’s Land Film Festival! No Man’s Land is the premier all-women and gender-nonconforming adventure film festival based out of Denver, Colorado. The festival meets a need and desire to highlight and connect women, transgender, and genderqueer communities in pursuit of the radical. A collaboration and celebration of humans who are deeply engaged in enhancing the feminine presence in the adventure arena, the goal of this festival is to connect like-minded individuals who are action-oriented, wish to support a shared vision of gender equality, have a desire to experience their passions and environments through a uniquely feminine lens, and above all, love adventure. How AMAZING is that?! SOOOO amazing! Thank you, thank you - we are stoked and honored.

The 9th ANNUAL FLAGSHIP FESTIVAL takes place in Denver on MARCH 8th + 9th, 2024 ✨ If you find yourself in Colorado in early March, check it out! ✨

We are honored to be included in the 2024 Frozen River Film Festival! Located in Winona, Minnesota, FRFF offers programs that engage, educate and activate viewers to become involved in the world. Selected films often explore issues, concerns, and life’s successes that are usually not covered in the local media. FRFF connects viewers with people at the heart of current events, organizations at the forefront of social change, and distinct cultures in an increasingly global community. We deeply appreciate being included and thank for sharing the mission of CHICAS AL AGUA. 💙

One week ago, the world lost a good one... a REALLY good one. Our tirelessly positive and enthusiastic friend and Chile based Co-Producer of CHICAS AL AGUA Melanie Kurtz is no longer with us. The loss of Melanie is heartbreaking and the shockwaves will be felt by many for a long long time. Melanie was a HUGE and critical part of our sweet short CHICAS AL AGUA… she was coordinator, conduit and -at times - conductor. She fully had my back and was always ready and willing to fact check, find out, help out, go there. Melanie spent the bulk of her time doing various good and essential works in and around Futaleufú… volunteering her time to visionary projects such as CHICAS AL AGUA and FutaSano… giving so much to so many. She has been a clutch component in an enviably tight community which motors like a well oiled machine making dreams reality in Futa. We extend our condolences to Melanie’s family and to her many friends. Grateful for the time we had and sad for the time we won’t have. Rest in peace Melanie… we will miss you and your powerful bright light. ✨🤍✨

We are so grateful and honored to have been included in over twenty incredibly inspiring film festivals WORLDWIDE. Each and every festival is important in that more people learn about CHICAS AL AGUA, the incredible female-led kayaking program for girls in Futaleufú, Chile, and more girls are inspired to participate… and that participation changes lives. Changed lives change culture.

Every so often, it’s even more special because of a prior connection to a festival that graciously includes our film… in this case, WILD & SCENIC.

I am a HUGE fan of WILD & SCENIC for many reasons…

1) BoonDocs’ first full length documentary LIFE OF THE RIVER - THE FUTALEUFÚ was in the inaugural WILD & SCENIC held twenty two years ago. And so to have another Futa film in the festival, two decades later… it’s really special. 2) Someone involved in the festival had the wisdom and foresight to name a Filmmaking award after my ever-inspiring friend John de Graaf who is a LEGEND in the environmental filmmaking world. He will be in attendance as he is every year. And 3) WILD & SCENIC is so important. Then and now. The fact that WILD & SCENIC has been sharing films and highlighting causes for 22 YEARS is a testament to its valuable contribution. WE ARE SO HONORED. Thank you!

“For 22 years, our Festival has united people inside and outside the theaters, allowing us to engage with filmmakers and learn from activists and scientists about the subject matters presented onscreen,” said WSFF Director Lívia Campos de Menezes. “I cannot wait to share the inspiring program our team has put together. In 2024, we will continue our mission to use film to spark conversations and ignite solutions. We are excited to share an array of national and international established and emerging filmmakers with our audiences. I am also thrilled about our special events, such as the Late Night Movies on Friday, the Dinner and a Movie on Saturday, and the family-friendly VR lounge throughout the weekend, offering participants unique ways to experience the films presented at the Festival.”

The ECOFeminism Festival to Celebrate Nature, Women and Their Empowering Connection is taking place in London in March 2024! We are honored to be included.

The ECOFeminism Festival encompasses the ECOFeminism Conference and the ECOFeminism Short Film Festival. It is inspired by the ECOFeminism movement that started in the 70’s, exploring the relationship between nature and women which has increasing relevance every day.

The festival explores the themes of evolution, misconceptions and intersectionality of ECOFeminism throughout history until today in the categories of Experimental, Animation, Fiction and Documentary by filmmakers from all over the world. We are thrilled to be amongst them with CHICAS AL AGUA.

More good news! CHICAS AL AGUA has been selected to screen in the 2023 Kendal Mountain Film Festival.

Going into it’s fifth decade, The Kendal Mountain Film Festival is recognised as the main annual social event for outdoor enthusiasts in the UK and now reaches audiences internationally with the world film tour.

The Festival Organizers vision is, and always has been, “To inspire more people to explore, respect and represent mountains, wilderness and their cultures”. They believe - as do we - that today this seems more relevant and timely as ever.

The festival kicks off November 16th. If you find yourself in the UK, go check it out!

Whoohoo! The good news keeps pouring in. So honored to be selected in the 2023 Waterwalker Film Festival.

Now Canada's longest-running Paddling Film Festival, Paddle Canada’s Waterwalker Film Festival is a tribute to the late Bill Mason, a great conservationist, canoeist, and filmmaker who cared passionately about his work and the wilderness.

The Waterwalker Film Festival came together in 1987 following Mason's death to help continue his vision of sharing the beauty of the natural world and promoting its protection. As he once said, "Film is for me a means of expressing my feelings about the things I enjoy, things I am concerned about, mostly the natural world".

Through this festival, the organizers hope to raise public awareness and support for wilderness conservation by celebrating films from around the world about canoeing, kayaking, safety, conservation, and protection of our waterways.

Truly an honor. Thank you Paddle Canada

TONIGHT AT 7PM

Presented by Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, The Maine Outdoor Film Festival returns to The Waldo for its second year on Friday, September 22nd at 7pm.

We’ll be screening EIGHT short films that highlight ADVENTURE, CONSERVATION & CONNECTION.

Here’s the lineup:

THE TRAPLINE – 11.4 minutes
Syd has carved out a rich life in the Yukon and she’s done it on her own terms. Then she met Jurgen, an old trapper who would change the course of her life.

WOOD HOOD – 16 minutes
DeVaughn is a 15-year-old kid from New York City who loves skateboarding and craves a “quiet place” to escape the chaos of his home, the city, and kids that steal from him.

ISLAND LOBSTERMAN – 22.95 minutes ‘Island Lobsterman’ is the story of Malcolm Fernald, who, with his father Dan, lobsters the waters in the Acadia region of Maine, which has been home to generations of Fernald lobster fishermen.

CHICAS AL AGUA – 17.99 minutes
You can count the number of female paddlers in Futalefu, Chile on one hand… and they want to change that.

BRAVO MARCEL – THE CENTURY CLIMBER – 21.58 minutes
Still climbing on the sharp end of the rope at 99 years of age, Marcel Remy is a truly unique climbing super hero of our time that shows us in an incredible way that you are really never too old to achieve your goals in climbing and lead an inspiring life.

STORIES FROM THE WOOD – 3.83 minutes
This film profiles Chainsaw Artist, Josh Landry. Josh’s talent elevates the art form and makes you look again with deserving reverence and wonder.

SEEDS OF CHANGE – 26.77 minutes
An organic Farmer in Maine sets out to transform the prison food system. Seeds of Change captures the intersecting stories of a life-long farmer and several incarcerated men as they harvest their own meals from a five-acre prison garden unlike any other.

FROZEN HARVEST – 2.6 minutes
For centuries, the people of Maine have upheld the tradition of ice harvesting. As one of the few remaining ice harvests in the world, the ice house in South Bristol offers a poignant reminder of the profound impact of global warming.
