The sun sets on one of the most politically charged days in Samoa's history, but I fear the worst of it is yet to come. Both parties have now claimed to be in charge and no one looks like there going to concede anytime soon. Prayers for the government and public sector workers who will play a huge role in the coming days.

A few months ago Vailima breweries announced the Coke family of softdrinks will no longer be bottled locally and were being replaced by imports, meaning no more of the classic glass bottles.😢😢😢. I brought this bottle two weeks ago just before the last of the available stock ran out and I dont have the heart to open it.

With news of New Zealand and Australia's establishing a quarantine-free travel bubble soon , it gives us hope that Samoa will also be able to open its borders. Cant wait to greet you guys at the airport.

O le laau o le Fagu (english name: wax gourd) Introduced to Samoa by the Polynesian settlers, this plant, was cultivated for its gourd like fruit used as a container for scented coconut oil, but since the introduction of bottles and cans, this use ceased and the plant is nowadays all but forgotten in Samoa and the rest of Polynesia. Interestingly enough, the Samoan name for bottle is the same as the name for this plant.

One thing I had to adjust to when I moved to Samoa was the price of imported goods. Take for example, this 200g box of Nutrigrain cereal cost $12.90. Considering Samoa's minimum wage is $3, this is half a days work for most locals.
