Creating documentaries can feel a bit like being a mad scientist—breaking down complex ideas and crafting ways to make them accessible to everyone.

Louis Barber Corallo was able to visually demonstrate salt intrusion in the Mekong Delta using nothing more than a fish tank, some sand, and a few helpful friends holding a makeshift suction device.

As a result, we were able to save a lot of money and resources by scaling down massive data into something that fits on a small table in our production office.

Oh my god, the food and coffee is amazing in the floating markets.

Anyway, our documentary work went beyond highlighting the effects of the sand mining industry; it was also about diving into the heart of the communities and showing the everyday lives that truly matter in our documentary. 🌍💧

When we needed an expert on the Mekong Delta we knew that Nguyễn Nguyễn's journalistic integrity would make her the perfect person for the job.

She would then go onto leading our documentary production as CAKE's story producer.

While researching documentaries on the impact of sand mining, we noticed most followed a familiar formula: highlight the problem, end with shock, and leave it at that.

For our project, we wanted to take a different approach—offering solutions that point toward a brighter, more optimistic future.

With the issues of diminishing sand stock, it was necessary to document alternative sand.
