my domestic den

my domestic den My Domestic Den is all about bringing your dogs natural instincts and primal intentions back into their domesticated lives. Nothing was helping.

In June 2015 my dog, Bolt, had a very serious skin condition. He was losing all of his fur and I couldn't figure out why. He was being pumped full of antibiotics and steroids. I needed a different approach. My life and his life changed when we took him to a holistic veterinarian. We started feeding him raw, stopped vaccinating him and didn't give him any monthly flea/tick meds. His coat become the

best its ever been, his teeth cleaned up, he stopped throwing up all the time and his behavior changed. Since then, I've approached my dogs' health based on all things primal. They eat raw meat, we supplement with all natural ingredients, we use essential oils and we don't vaccinate. I have seen the immense change in my dogs and I want to share that with the world. Our dogs were domesticated from wolves and my goal is to bring back the lifestyle of their ancestors. I'm here to help you learn, experiment, and question what it is to be a domestic den.

If you know me, you know that bringing out 🎨 is a lot for me! I’m not a fan of messy things. I’d avoid anything that might be overstimulating because my kids are already overwhelming. Can you relate? There was a moment a couple months ago that I realized, I’m not overwhelmed because of my kids. It’s because of the little device you are holding as you read this.

Since turning off notifications and putting my phone on the counter I’ve noticed…

▪️Less overwhelm
▪️More calm
▪️More connection
▪️More fun
▪️More patience
▪️More presence
▪️More memories

Overall, I’m more present in my own life, rather than someone else’s life online. I have the mental capacity to do things like paint. It’s been nothing short of beautiful!

There’s more that I open up about and share on the blog so check that out if you want to learn how I got to this point.

For a while I’ve gotten in my own way with thoughts of “who would want to hear from me, I’m no expert”. Mindset matters though! For a few weeks now I’ve changed that to “You have good advice and experience to share. People would love to hear from you.” So here we go! New mindset, new blog, new purpose. Putting it out into the world and not looking back!

The other day Cyrus took my phone out of my hands and said “no phone”. He taught me a lesson and that is to be less wrapped up in the lives of others and fully wrapped up in ours. I’ve made a conscious effort to resist the urge to check my phone when I’m around the boys. It’s been interesting because when I stop myself from checking I’ve had these thoughts of “what if I miss something?” Today my next thought was “What if you miss something right in front of you!” BAM —> Mindset Shift • How sad that I’ve been willing to miss out on my boys to check and see what someone else is up to. This is honestly embarrassing to admit. And I do play with my boys A LOT, always have. But now, now I’m noticing how much MORE time I can spend playing with them if I just ignored the urge to see what others are up to. It’s been beautiful!

🌲 I’m feeling such a sense of calm coming into 2023. I believe 2022 was the year I truly came into motherhood and found myself as mom. Not saying it was easy. Gosh I learned a lot though. I truly cannot wait to see what this year has in store. If you only had one word to describe how you feel coming into 2023, what would it be? Or what do you want it to be? Because you can make that happen.

A little mindset practice for the holidays. When it comes to decisions, whether it’s gift or gatherings, ask yourself if it’s going to bring you joy. Allow the answer to be your guide through the holidays.

My motherhood motto is “everything is temporary”. The good and the bad. We have to see and love the good. It’s what gives us the hope for the tough times during motherhood. It will all pass. We’ve made it this far and I’m so freakin’ proud of us, and you, for that! 🧡
