It was a true pleasure to produce composer Dana Howell's intricate work, 'On The Wings of Butterflies'. This piece was composed in the style of a 'Pierrot Ensemble' (made popular by Schoenberg in 1920), marked by incredible precision, intentional abstraction and constant meter / time changes that are no less than acrobatic. It was really fun to take on a smaller, more intimate project via a 'Pierrot Ensemble' configuration this evening. VERY challenging music with twists and turns at every corner, but so incredibly fulfilling. More info to come soon!

There are a dizzying amount of detailed, precise components that go into making our scoring sessions a success. But at the end of the day, the players are the shining jewel and utmost priority. The technology needs to be current, the hall needs to sound pristine, the crew needs to communicate and problem solve quickly and efficiently, and communication with our clients needs to be pristine. But without professional, seasoned players who can quickly master sheet music (usually seeing it on their stands for the first time on the day of the session!) who have each given years and years of untold sacrifices in order to perfect their chosen instrument, our sessions would not be possible. Here are a couple of pictures from our most recent session. Thank you to all the players of the Legacy Scoring Orchestra, as well as to all of the classical musicians out there in the world keeping classical music alive.

One of the unique factors of our recording sessions is our ability to connect with our guest composers live and in real time as we work through the recording of their pieces, no matter where they are in the world. We also have a monitor configured in front of the orchestra so that all of the players can not only see our guest composer, but also hear them as well through a separate channel of audio that runs directly into our custom designed headphone distribution system. This way the composer can give them feedback directly, and the players can directly ask them questions. It's basically like having them present with us in person, but also a little like Max Headroom! Here we are working with our recent guest composer, Markus Martincic, joining us from Spain!

We had the pleasure of working with composer Aaron Sutton last Thursday, who traveled from NYC to work with us in person at the historic St. John's Episcopal Church as we recorded his string quartet piece, 'Jennifer", which he composed for his wife on their wedding day! We are looking forward to hosting composer Markus Martincic at our shared session next week with full orchestra. A veteran to the film and television scoring industry, Markus brings a wonderfully evocative tone to the commercial music world. He will be joining us remotely from Spain! Outside of our work in orchestral soundtrack recording the LSO has begun working on new development as we embark on our first ever wind ensemble recording session this February! We are excited as we continue to seek the recording needs of band directors, and composers all over the world.

As has been the case with everyone involved in the classical music and film community during the pandemic, the Legacy Scoring Orchestra certainly took a hard hit. But that did give us some time to restructure, reconfigure, and develop an even stronger vision for the future, including a few exciting projects in the works for 2024. We're looking forward to making a comeback, and cannot wait to start making music together again! Last year we had the honor of recording composer Kazimir Boyle,'s debut album, "Côte d'Or: Vignetters of Burgundy". Since its recent release, Kazimir's masterful composition has been experiencing national acclaim and has been garnering the attention of NPR stations across the country, and is now going to be broadcast on WYSU-FM!

This week we had the pleasure of working with producer Mike Talanca, as well as his son, Mike Talanca jr, who flew in from Los Angeles to join us as we performed recorded arrangements for strings and harp for a few of their upcoming works. We're preparing for a first here at Legacy:
a father-and-son scoring session on August 25th!

Beyond being our brilliant engineer, Mike Talanca is a seasoned, veteran producer and songwriter in his own right, having worked with such legends as David Bowie, Phil Keaggy, Prince, Bruce Springsteen and countless others. He will be joined by his son, Mike Talanca Jr., who will be flying in from LA, as we will be performing orchestrations for some new material that they have both composed. A veteran to the operatic community, Noma has studied under the likes of Jaqueline Elias and Barbara fox Demaio, is routinely featured as a pianist as well as a vocalist for the Triad Area Medical Orchestra and has performed under the baton of maestro Christopher James Lees and Daniel Bukin.
