Dana Howell, "On The Wings of Butterflies"
It was a true pleasure to produce composer Dana Howell's intricate work, 'On The Wings of Butterflies'. This piece was composed in the style of a 'Pierrot Ensemble' (made popular by Schoenberg in 1920), marked by incredible precision, intentional abstraction and constant meter / time changes that are no less than acrobatic. We're pleased to share our behind the scenes video from this really unique session below. Best of success with you and this masterful work, Dana!

As has been the case with everyone involved in the classical music and film community during the pandemic, the Legacy Scoring Orchestra certainly took a hard hit. But that did give us some time to restructure, reconfigure, and develop an even stronger vision for the future, including a few exciting projects in the works for 2024. We're looking forward to making a comeback, and cannot wait to start making music together again! In the meantime, please enjoy this behind-the-scenes video outlining the philosophy of the LSO, how we work, and even a little demo session at the end. We hope that you have been keeping well, staying healthy, and staying in tune!
Fun fact: Dean Wendt, the man who recorded the voice over for our promotional video, is also the voice of Barney the Purple Dinosaur!! You can check out more of his work at https://www.vothatsreal.com/
Keeping classical musicianship alive during the Covid-19 pandemic
The Covid-19 pandemic has been especially tragic for the untold millions of classical musicians who have given their very lives to their chosen instruments, now with fewer (or no) avenues to use them at all during this uncertain time. Now more than ever, the Youngstown Scoring Stage is upholding its unique mission to continue to employ classical musicians for orchestral recording projects from clients around the world.....both safely while following all governmental protocol...yet with an integrity to true classical musicianship at the same time.
We recently had the priviledge of producing the score to composer Kazimir Boyle's fascinating and intracate work, "Cotê d'Or", and WFMJ came to cover our journey. Special thank you to reporter Derek Steyer for truly capturing the heart of our mission. Please support your local classical musicians!
