There's been controversy and discussion from people from all walks of life since the Cleveland Browns traded for Deshaun Watson.
The trade comes with a lot of questions revolving around Watson's off the field behavior. He did not play for Houston in 2021 after demanding a trade and is facing 22 civil lawsuits from women over sexual harassment during massage therapy sessions.
According to USA Today, a judge ruled Tuesday that Watson has to answer questions whether he had sex with any of the 18 massage therapists who issues statements of support for the quarterback.
COVID PANDEMIC INSIDE STORIES: PART 2
In part two of the podcast series “COVID PANDEMIC: INSIDE STORIES,” Valley journalists Bertram de Souza and Cynthia Rickard speak with an ICU nurse, Gulay Toslu of Canfield, who has spent the last year as a traveling nurse in New York City, treating covid patients.
Toslu shares her stories from the perspective as a health care professional, treating those inflicted by the disease, and dealing with the trauma of those who can not be saved.
“I know a lot of nurses complain about the nurse to patient ratios, but I’ve seen first hand how hospitals just really struggle,” Toslu said. Finding the staff despite the fact they strive to get nurses and are still short-staffed.”
Toslu added “I think as nurses, these are unprecedented times, and kind of we have to help out the hospitals as well. I know it is not easy as an ICU nurse, I had to take care of so many patients... it’s not easy, but we have to do what we have to do to take care of the community.”
As the country enters into the third year of the global pandemic, this podcast series is highlighting various insights of those helping and those impacted by the disease.
COVID PANDEMIC: INSIDE STORIES
The U.S. health care system is imploding from the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the next few weeks, three front-line workers, one whose life has been put on the line by Covid’s restrictions, will share their stories and insights with veteran Mahoning Valley journalists Bertram de Souza and Cynthia Rickard, co-hosts of The Scribbler Publishing Group podcast.
Joining us today is Dr. Raed Dweik, chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Respiratory Institute, who will be asked to shed light on this unapologetic appeal the clinic issued to the public three weeks ago:
“Today, we come to you with a plea. Get vaccinated. Please. Whether you are due for your booster shot, undecided about getting your child vaccinated, or have been leery of the vaccine all along. The science is clear. Vaccines save lives. Please, get vaccinated.”
Next week, we’ll speak to Gulay Toslu, a registered nurse from Canfield who has been working for the past year in one of the hotbeds of the virus, New York City. She’ll be asked about the emotional and physical toll the pandemic is having on her and other nurses, physicians, and health care providers.
And finally, the week of Jan. 23, Dr. Jonathan DaSilva will give his perspective as a physician whose Canadian health care system has determined that a kidney transplant is a non-urgent surgery. DaSilva has been on leave from his practice in Australia, spending at least 6 hours a day hooked up to a dialysis machine at his Toronto area home while he awaits a kidney transplant.

Jan. 6 - One Year Later
A year ago today, the nation and the world watched in horror and disbelief as supporters of Donald Trump invaded the U.S. Capitol, resulting in death and destruction. Republicans and Democrats in Congress reacted in anger to the attack on our democracy.
Today, however, Democrats on Capitol Hill have emerged as the protectors of the U.S. Constitution and this nation's democratic ideals, including a free and fair presidential election and the peaceful transition of presidential power.
Most Republicans, on the other hand, have become apologists for the insurrectionists and unabashed supporters of Trump, who continues to peddle “ The Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.
The Scribbler Publishing Group is commemorating the January 6, 2021, insurrection with a podcast featuring U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan, D-Howland, chairman of the House Legislative Branch subcommittee. The subcommittee oversees the U.S. Capitol, including funding for Capitol Police. Ryan is in his 10th term as a member of the House of Representatives.
The podcast, co-hosted by veteran Mahoning Valley journalists Bertram de Souza and Cynthia Rickard, will be streamed live starting at 1 p.m. on WFMJ.com, Bertram de Souza's Scribbler Publishing Group YouTube Channel and page, and other online platforms.
