Jan. 6 - One Year Later

A year ago today, the nation and the world watched in horror and disbelief as supporters of Donald Trump invaded the U.S. Capitol, resulting in death and destruction. Republicans and Democrats in Congress reacted in anger to the attack on our democracy. Today, however, Democrats on Capitol Hill have emerged as the protectors of the U.S. Constitution and this nation's democratic ideals, including a free and fair presidential election and the peaceful transition of presidential power. Most Republicans, on the other hand, have become apologists for the insurrectionists and unabashed supporters of Trump, who continues to peddle “ The Big Lie” that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. The Scribbler Publishing Group is commemorating the January 6, 2021, insurrection with a podcast featuring U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan, D-Howland, chairman of the House Legislative Branch subcommittee. The subcommittee oversees the U.S. Capitol, including funding for Capitol Police. Ryan is in his 10th term as a member of the House of Representatives. The podcast, co-hosted by veteran Mahoning Valley journalists Bertram de Souza and Cynthia Rickard, will be streamed live starting at 1 p.m. on WFMJ.com, Bertram de Souza's Scribbler Publishing Group YouTube Channel and page, and other online platforms.

YSU administration defends its decisions

Youngstown State University's future hangs in balance, with the faculty conducting a very public campaign against the administration's proposal to eliminate more than two dozen academic programs. Youngstown Mayoral Debate

Discord Link: https://discord.gg/5XCWWetU Veteran journalist Bertram de Souza will be hosting a special online live Youngstown mayoral debate broadcast Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., featuring the three candidates whose names appear on the general election ballot. Mayoral candidates debating tonight include: Mayor Jamael Tito Brown, who is seeking a second four-year term as the Democratic nominee; Tracey Winbush, the Republican nominee and radio talk show host; and Richard Hill, an independent candidate and insurance broker. Joining de Souza in the questioning of the candidates will be Cynthia Rickard, veteran journalist who served as an editor of the Youngstown Vindicator; and Rose Carter, executive director of ACTION, a multi-denominational Grassroots organization.
