How to Season Your New Blackstone 28-inch Flex-Fold Griddle
1. Preparing the Surface:
Start by using the Blackstone scraping brick to smooth out any imperfections or rough spots on the griddle surface. Once finished, wipe away any loose debris with a damp paper towel. A great trick I learned from @jess_ferrin is to use a leaf blower to blow away fine debris quickly and efficiently.
2. Initial Cleaning:
Next, clean the griddle with soap, water, and a sponge or paper towel to remove any manufacturing oils or residues. Rinse it well with clean water to ensure no soap remains, then dry the surface completely with a paper towel.
3. Heating the Griddle:
Turn on the burners to high heat and let the griddle heat up for about 10-15 minutes. You'll know it's ready when the metal begins to change color slightly.
4. Applying the Seasoning:
Use a spoon to apply a small amount of Blackstone cast iron seasoning (or your preferred oil) onto the hot surface. Using tongs and a folded paper towel, spread the oil evenly across the griddle, covering the entire surface, including the sides.
5. Burning Off the Oil:
Allow the oil to smoke off completely. This process, called polymerization, creates a durable, non-stick layer. Once the smoke stops, the first layer of seasoning is complete.
6. Repeating the Process:
Repeat the seasoning process 6-7 times, applying thin layers of oil each time and burning it off. This builds a strong, protective coating on your griddle.
7. Final Wipe-Down:
After the last layer has been burned off and the griddle has cooled slightly, give it a final wipe with a lightly oiled paper towel for added protection.
Your Blackstone 28-inch FlexFold griddle is now perfectly seasoned and ready for cooking! Maintain its condition by lightly oiling it after every use.
Ummm...yep!
Who else gets that look on their face?
Let me know the last Blackstone item you've purchased or received as a gift in the comments!
