Today is day as part of The N2 Company! This is where we, as magazine publishers across the US, are encouraged to find a way to give back to the local community. This year, I want to give a big shout out to all of our Running Man residents who donated to our annual coat drive to benefit One Warm Coat! Donations were dropped off yesterday and will benefit local community members in Newport News. Thank you!

A *huge* thank you to CVP Windows & Doors for hosting us for Windowberfest again this year this past Saturday! CVP is truly a community-minded organization that not only runs a thriving business, but continually looks to give back to the community, and we are so blessed to be included in their endeavors!

It was a fun night of trunk or treat, food, outdoor movie, bounce house obstacle course, face painting, haunted trailers, haunted warehouse tours, and more. It was awesome to partner with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg and Grove Christian Outreach Center, to have their families come, too! We had a ton of help with the awesome volunteers at AmeriCorps -- they were amazing!

The haunted trailers were so fun, with themes of Jurassic Park, Haunted Disney, Spooky Vampire, and Crazy Mirror Funhouse, and we enjoyed trunk or treating alongside our neighborhood partners Rhea Lana's of Hampton Roads and PESTOUT! We also made new friends with Cleaning Cents, LLC and enjoyed sharing our candy back and forth.

Hot off the presses! Our October issue is hitting mailboxes soon, featuring the Reece Family (who have lived in Running Man since 1987!) as photographed by the talented L Workman Photography!

Also inside, we are spotlighting W.M. Smith Contracting in our section called "Supporting Local" -- they've been busy in our neighborhood and we wanted to give them a chance to tell their story!

Blown Away Salon in Yorktown has a great event coming up to support their "Shop with a Sheriff" event!

Saturday, October 26 will have haircuts, tinsel, waxing, and a bunch of fun things like vendors, raffles, activities, and more. Call to make your appointment and participate in this good cause!

We had a great puppy playdate for our neighborhood yesterday, hosted by PETquoson! Residents and magazine partners could bring by their pups for dog ice cream tastings and running around the dog park, complete with cooling pools, toys, tunnels, and lots of good things to sniff. The dogs enjoyed running around with each other, and owners could also shop the wide selection of dog and cat items inside. We also had a raffle and winners won their own container of peanut butter or carob doggie ice cream! Thanks to everyone who came out, including our Stroll Running Man partners Robin and Chrisopher with AirGuard Mechanical LLC, another great local Poquoson business!

Owner Michelle Green of Blown Away Salon was all smiles today to greet guests at the Hayes location with a fundraiser to support Shop with A Cop! I stopped by with my boys to get our back to school cuts, and they also had a food truck and raffle. I love how involved Blown Away Salon is in the local community-- thank you for a great event!

Our non-profit partner for this month is Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula! They have a great opportunity to support local by joining in their 5K Run / Walk on August 17 at The Mariners' Museum and Park

Funds raised directly support their Health and Wellness Programming at BGCVP and they need your HELP! Walk or run and we will see you at the start line!

I met up with Misty Bailey of Imperial Etiquette, LLC today for coffee- she's helping plan our neighborhood holiday open house, which be open to our residents and magazine partners and their families in December! More details to come!

A big thanks to Misty for taking time out of her busy event planning schedule to support our neighborhood! She's available to help plan any special occasion including weddings, baby or bridal showers, retirement, graduation, or birthday parties, and more and is passionate about what she does and detail oriented to pull together a great event.

We had a neighborhood succulent class event scheduled at Thirsty Flowers LLC in July, and mother nature decided to intervene twice with thunderstorms. We pivoted and had a 'drop in as you can' succulent session, which turned out great! Residents who signed up for the original event were invited to stop by and see the shop and design a succulent creation. We very much appreciate owners Kandice and Lillyana for hosting us and welcoming our neighborhood with open arms!

Nestled in the Grafton area of Yorktown, Thirsty Flowers LLC opened on January 21st, 2024 and stands as a testament to the passion and dedication of its owner, Lillyana Barbosa along with the help of her mother Kandice Sanders.
