Nike Davies-Okundaye ( ), a pioneering Nigerian artist and textile designer, is a visionary in preserving and promoting traditional African art. Best known for her mastery of “Adire”, a Yoruba indigo-dyed textile, she has played a crucial role in reviving and modernizing this ancient craft. Her expertise in Adire has not only elevated it to the global stage but also empowered women in rural communities by teaching them the craft as a source of income.

In addition to her work with Adire, Nike is the founder of the Nike Art Gallery in Lagos, one of the largest art galleries in Africa. The gallery is a cultural treasure trove, housing over 8,000 works of art, from contemporary paintings to traditional sculptures, celebrating Nigeria’s vibrant artistic heritage. Through her gallery and workshops, Nike continues to nurture a new generation of African artists, making her a central figure in the African art world.

🇧🇫

Saïdou Dicko is a contemporary artist from Burkina Faso, known for his striking works that explore themes of identity, memory, and cultural heritage.

Saïdou is a self-taught visual artist, his art blends photography, painting, and videography, often featuring silhouetted figures to reflect the complex relationship between individuals and their environments. His use of silhouettes is inspired by his childhood as a Fulani shepherd, when he would trace the shadows of his animals onto the dirt. His latest work, “The Shadowed People” is a reflection of all these years of work and research.

Saïdou Dicko has earned several prestigious awards for his work, including the Prix Blachère at the 2006 Dakar Biennale, the Prix de la Francophonie at the African Photography Encounters in Bamako in 2007, the Fondation Thamgidi Prize in 2008, and the Off Prize of the European Union.
