A quirky Fairborn shop is home to oddities of all kinds and a hub of creativity and community. The The Secret Chamber House of Oddities And Artwork, owned by Cherish Harrell, draws visitors from near and far and features an eclectic and bizarre collection of items from haunted dolls to a ghost cat who’s known to cause havoc in the shop. Gleaning is the practice of collecting leftover crops from farmers’ fields after they’ve been harvested. 🧑‍🌾 Rather than leave the perfectly good, but unharvested and unsold, produce to spoil, the farmer offers it to volunteers who come and pick it and transport it to a food bank for those in need. That’s exactly what the Society of St. Andrew - Ohio did with Champaign Berry Farm unexpectedly large peach bounty and has made several return trips to the farm throughout its growing season. 🍑 https://bit.ly/3Yoplbz

Roger Moore of Mansfield inherited his striking facial features from his grandfather, a full-blooded Carmel Indian – a group that lived in Ohio’s Highland and Meigs counties until as recently as the early 1900s. Dorothy Montgomery is old enough to remember when Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative set the first electric poles along her country road in 1935. Each October, as cooperatives everywhere celebrate National Co-op Month, Montgomery’s story is a reminder of how neighbors and small communities came together to bring power to the nation’s farms and rural countrysides when the big electric companies determined there wasn’t enough money to be made there. Three Midwest Electric members are doing their parts to help rebuild the Monarch butterfly population, which was deemed endangered in 2022 as a result of environmental conditions, herbicide and pesticide use, and loss of suitable habitat.
