A Yuba Community College District trustee is claiming his recent arrest late last month on suspicion of theft/embezzlement of an elder/dependent adult was politically motivated. Jose Garcia states that the action comes after he made "public concerns about corruption in city and county government, particularly relating to the culpability of city and county officials in the July 1, 2025, Esparto Fireworks Explosion that claimed seven lives."
