Surly Brewing Company isn’t just about great beer—it’s about making history. 🍺

When Surly opened in 2006, they didn’t just create unforgettable brews like Furious IPA—they challenged what was possible in Minnesota’s beer industry. At the time, Minnesota law prohibited breweries from serving their own beer directly to customers. Surly’s founder, Omar Ansari, refused to settle for outdated rules.

In 2011, after years of advocacy, the Surly Bill was signed into law, finally legalizing taprooms. This law not only allowed Surly to build their world-class Destination Brewery but sparked a craft beer explosion across Minnesota. Breweries statewide suddenly had a path to connect directly with their fans, forever changing the industry.

Now, Surly is leading again with their THC Tonics—bold, creative, and always pushing the envelope. Cheers to Surly Brewing: the pioneers who turned dreams into reality and made Minnesota one of the top craft beer destinations in the country.

This week, The Beer Guyz head over to High Pines Brewing in Roseville, Minnesota! Opened in February 2021, this family-owned brewery is run by a dynamic trio: husband and wife team Peter and Sonja, alongside Sonja’s sister Kelly. After spending over 25 years in the restaurant industry, Peter is also the Head Brewer, crafting some of the finest beers in the Twin Cities.

From crisp IPAs to unique seasonal brews, High Pines Brewing. High Pines is quickly becoming a go-to destination for craft beer lovers. Pair your favorite beer with a delicious bite from The Tipsy Steer, their on-site partner that offers mouth-watering food options perfect for a casual night out.
