Maryland will miss... Catherine Holden of Windsor Manor Stables in Sandy Spring. Holden was a former DC/Co-DC of Redland Hunt Pony Club and former show secretary for the USDF Colonel Bengt Ljungquist Memorial Championship. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Milnes of Kidlington England; her sister-in-law, Pamala Pratt of Jacksonville Florida; her daughter Vanessa (Steven) Swartz of Sandy Spring, Maryland, her two grandchildren. Courtney Swartz of Sandy Spring Maryland and Zachary (Rachel) Swartz of Westminster, Maryland; her two great grandchildren Kinsley and Emerson Swartz; and many nieces and nephews in both England and the USA. The Swartz family invites family and friends to a “Celebration of Life” on September 29 at her home (Windsor Manor Farm) at 16930 Norwood Road in Sandy Spring Maryland from 1 to 4 PM. The Washington International Horse Show is introducing the "Kind Wins" campaign for the 2024 show. The anti-bullying initiative began in Sweden and has been brought to WIHS through a private grant and partnership with Friends, a Swedish anti-bullying organization. As part of the Kind Wins program, WIHS will present the "Kind Wins" Award on Barn Night to an individual, group or organization that has helped bring education and awareness on anti-bullying in the equestrian community. Clover Run in Anne Arundel County was returning home from a horse show this weekend and was in a serious accident with a suspected drunk driver who now has a hearing on September 3 for 9 offenses related to this accident. We’ve been in touch with Clover Run and they have told us that, while banged up, horses and humans will be ok, but the truck and trailer are a total loss. Friends are doing what they can to help get the farm back on its feet. Jessica, Clover Run’s owner, realized that the other driver was in the wrong lane and did everything she could to mitigate that damage, but it is an excellent reminder to be hyper vigilant when driving with your truck and trailer. We will follow up once we know the results of the other driver’s hearing on September 3.
