Manteo, NC – The Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament is happy to announce the appointment of Lisa Sabadic Howell as Assistant Director of the Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament. Howell brings a wealth of experience, a deep understanding of the local fishing community, and a genuine passion for the sport to this role.
 
A lifelong Outer Banks resident, Howell has been immersed in the local fishing community since childhood. Having witnessed the evolution of the Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament firsthand, her unique perspective and historical knowledge will be an asset to the team.
 
Her deep-rooted connection to the community, coupled with her extensive knowledge of local fisheries, makes her an ideal fit for this role. As the current Tournament Director for the East West Billfish Tournament, Howell has successfully revitalized this historic event. Her leadership and dedication have transformed the tournament into a thriving non-profit organization that helps support the Dare County fishing community.
 
Howell’s background in tournament operations, sponsor relations, and community outreach will be a great contribution to the Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament. Her passion for fishing and her commitment to preserving the rich maritime heritage of the Outer Banks align greatly with the tournament’s mission.

Nearly six years later, we are excited to congratulate the legendary Capt. Phillips on reaching the mind-blowing number of 40,000 billfish releases in his career, which he achieved several days ago aboard the Decisive off Guatemala.

Maddy Hazlett Rivers Named Tournament Director of Pirates Cove Billfish Tournament

Manteo, NC - The Pirates Cove Billfish Tournament Board of Directors is excited to announce Maddy Hazlett Rivers as Tournament Director.

Maddy Hazlett Rivers has been immersed in the world of fishing most of her life. Introduced to the sport at a young age, her passion has taken her around the globe, exploring different fishing destinations and cultures. After her first taste of tournament fishing, Maddy knew that her life’s calling would be deeply connected to boating and fishing.

Maddy has worked as a crewmember on sportfishing boats, experiencing new waters and expanding her expertise. But she really found her calling when Skip Smith afforded her the opportunity to assist him with the Custom Shootout. Maddy’s experience and passion led her to start Sailfish Sweethearts which focuses on woman angling while raising awareness and money for Breast Cancer research and care. Maddy has also been a member of the Marlin Lady Angler Team, showcasing her skills as an angler.

Maddy Hazlett Rivers excels at crafting events that not only challenge participants but also foster a sense of community. Her ability to think outside the box helps her create fun, engaging, and memorable events that bring anglers and boating enthusiasts together, making every tournament she touches something special. Her passion for running tournaments around the world is admired by sponsors, participants and host marinas.
