I like to explain what I do as ghost-writing for social media.

As such, I don't really like to make it publicly known who I'm working for, but I'll tell you if you ask.

Sometimes, though, I think it could be helpful for you to know that I'm working for a wide variety of businesses, as you can see here. It often involves doing extensive research into what the customers of each industry find interesting.

I keep *my* costs low, so I don't have to pass them on to you. We're all just trying to run businesses here!

Not in my office. I try not to, today, if I can help it. Watching the History channel, organizing a kitchen drawer in the middle of my living room. I always wear black on this day.

I grew up an hour from NYC and was a 17 year old freshman at SUNY Oneonta at the time.

Loved ones were there.

I tried so hard to stay awake, but fell asleep and didn't see anything with my eyes. These were after midnight. It was a really wild feeling to be getting these with the phone but not actually be able to see it. Seeing the Northern Lights is something I've always wanted to do, I'm kicking myself for falling asleep in the ONE HOUR I could have seen them. Fingers crossed for tonight. 🥺

Sorry about my "woo"s. I was mostly woo-ing to the people we could hear cheering up the street to be funny. 🫣

If you ever, EVER have the chance to be somewhere where Totality is happening, do it. It is quite literally a night and day difference. If you were underwhelmed during the eclipse if you weren't witnessing Totality the other day, I get it. Going up to Old Forge in the Adirondacks was a gamechager.

Small business owners: if Facebook/Instagram/X(Twitter)/TikTok/etc went down, what other ways would you have at your disposal to reach your customers?

Social media can not and should not be your only form of marketing and communication.

Other things you can be doing:
•Build an email subscriber list and send regular newsletters with promotions and updates. How? If you have a website, having people subscribe is something you set up there. If you don't have a website? Get one.

•Word of mouth is amazing, especially in small towns. When people love what you do, they want to tell others.

•Business cards are, like, the first thing new business owners invest in, aren't they? They're totally easy to make these days, and so worth it!

•Along the same lines, flyers. Please don't underestimate the power of print materials!

•Good old-fashioned networking. Yes, talking to people! Attend local business networking events or trade shows. Are you a member of the local Chamber of Commerce? Join industry-specific associations and participate in their events. Shop at other small businesses and foster relationships with your peers. Collaborate and cross-promote each other!

•Place ads in local magazines, newspapers, or community newsletters. As a tourist destination, we have many to choose from.

•Sponsor local events, sports teams, charities, and community activities. Being a part of a community is a two-way street.

•WRIP! The folks over at our local radio station are *amazing*. I've advertised with them, myself! Of course, all of the radio stations outside of our immediate vicinity are as well, and if your target audience listens in, go to them, too. And don't count out podcasts!

•TV - I'm not talking Super Bowl ads or anything, but you know about WYBN, right? Go talk to Mr. Viles www.wybntv14.com

•People like stickers 🤷‍♀️
