Shenandoah Valley Amateur Radio Club

Shenandoah Valley Amateur Radio Club The Shenandoah Valley Amateur Radio Club, Inc. is one of the oldest established radio clubs in the U.S. It was founded in 1948.

This is an amateur radio club that happens to own a club house in Wi******er, Virginia. We have historically relied on membership dues and proceeds from our annual hamfest that has been held at the Clarke County Ruritan Fair Grounds in Berryville, Virginia, on the first Sunday in August for decades until COVID 19 hit in 2020. We are anxious to resume the annual hamfest tradition which is one of th

e ham radio jewels of the region. We are cautiously optimistic of the prospect of resumption of this grand event in 2021, and will provide updates here and on our other public web presence as the story unfolds. In the mean time, our rainy day funds are sustaining us for the moment. The club house / club station is accessible within the guidelines and government orders applicable. Regular Club in-person membership meetings at the Club house have been suspended until further notice. They have been replaced with online meetings. Members are e-mailed a URL to a Zoom meeting one to two days before the meeting. Others interested in attending may use the club's web site contact form (https://svarc.us/contact-us/) and request a meeting invite.

Join us at the Clubhouse tomorrow, March 21, 7:30 PM for a barn burner of a presentation on Grounding and Bonding for Mobile Stations. Presented by club member W3GX, John Foote, Electrical Engineer, and former network broadcast engineer who oversaw construction of broadcast antenna towers nationwide. 10 meters from KG4Y in grid EM60, showing the 800-1600 mile range band in pink. Fun with www.pskreporter.info (filtered by KG4Y and 10 meters), an SDR (Airspy Discovery HF+), SDR++, a virutual audio cable to feed WSJT-X, and a youloop antenna hanging from a light fixture on a wall about 4 feet above the floor. Lots of DX too, but the picture with the pink band was something I had not seen before. Check out PSK Reporter, but more importantly, get on 10 meters soon! There's plenty to be worked on there right now! de KG4Y

Sad to see an icon in the amateur radio community pass. Rest in peace, Dr. Heil.

Sad to see an icon in the amateur radio community pass. Rest in peace, Dr. Heil.

Our beloved founder, Dr. Bob Heil, K9EID, is now a Silent Key. Bob fought a valiant, year-long battle with cancer, and passed peacefully surrounded by his family. Bob’s lifelong passion for amateur radio was clear to everyone involved in the hobby. Everything Bob did for the betterment and growth of amateur radio - from his instructional handbooks and countless presentations to his support of the ARRL and youth programs - was based on the foundation and spirit of service. Bob was an Elmer to all of us. While Bob’s presence will dearly be missed, his impact on the hobby and everyone in it will forever be felt. On behalf of Bob to all ham radio operators worldwide, 73.

Work the world with Amateur Radio

Founded in 1948 as a nonprofit club dedicated to the advancement and enjoyment of amateur radio operators in the northern Shenandoah Valley, the Shenandoah Valley Amateur Radio Club, Inc. (SVARC) is one of the oldest established radio clubs in the U.S. We are an ARRL-affiliated Amateur Radio Club, we support the local A.R.E.S. (Amateur Radio Emergency Services System), and we are the home of the famous annual Berryville Hamfest, now in its seventh decade of operation, always the first Sunday in August.

The purpose of the Shenandoah Valley Amateur Radio Club is:

a) To conduct and provide for its Membership instructions and training in the construction, operation, and maintenance of Amateur Radio equipment and arrange for training and practice in all phases of Amateur Radio communication.

b) To promote the exchange of information and radio knowledge, cooperation, and fraternalism among members; to develop operating proficiency and to provide a public service to the community and persons during emergencies and program activities that enhance the welfare of the Amateur Radio service.
