Last weekend’s Healing the Land: Fencing, Corrals, & Intro to Rotational Grazing workshop was a blast! 💥
We were joined by several local farms and homesteaders all with various size properties who desired to learn ways they could successfully heal their pastures and implement ancestral practices for better livestock and soil health.
This workshop was led by FredCo’s very own, @calebfahnestock of @backtobasics_farm. Caleb has a passion for helping others implement rotational grazing practices for better pasture management and it shines in all the ways he consistently shows up in our local community to assist those with questions. We couldn’t wait to have him teach all he knows to our group. 👏🏻
Our attendees left with an overall understanding of various fencing types and their possible applications, corral systems and their place in herd health/management, and strategic methods for grazing throughout the seasons here in Virginia; along with tips to minimize hay costs during winter, maximize grazing in the spring, and minimize impacts of drought in the summer.
Our team (led by Caleb) has packed all of this and more into our rotational grazing workbook that will be available for download very soon (details to come). Keep an eye out for updates with our newsletter (link in bio). 👀

Crawlers will enjoy music from High Mountain Bluegrass, BBQ (ticket required) from local pit master John Jewell, a chance to win one of several prizes from our local farms, homesteads, and businesses, and more!
