FOOD FREEDOM BILL UPDATE:
JOIN US FOR VICFA LOBBY DAY TOMORROW
TUESDAY JANUARY 21, 7:30 AM

COME AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR HJ452 and YOUR food freedom, meet with your legislators, meet other food freedom advocates and be part of the change!

We will meet up in the main lobby of the new General Assembly Building, located at 201 North 9th Street, 23219, at 7:30 am and start lobbying at 8 am. The public entrance is located on the East Broad Street side of the building. We will meet in the lobby. We will be visiting committee members for both Rules and Agricultural Subcommittees. If you have a VICFA T-shirt feel free to wear it, or something green if you like.

Let's make a presence that the legislators will remember when the Amendment goes up for vote!

Food Freedom moving forward.

“That the right of the people to acquire the food of their choice from the source of their choice, with mutual consent, shall not be infringed.”

UPDATE-HJ 452, is still waiting to be assigned to a committee.
Most likely it will be heard first in the House Rules committee. We will alert you as soon as we know. IF YOU have a delegate on the rules committee please contact them and ask them to support HJ452 and protect YOUR right to food choice freedom.

To be included in the Virginia Constitution, the Amendment will have to pass both the House and the Senate by a majority vote this year and be presented in 2026 legislature to a new body of representatives to again pass by majority vote. We need your help to get this through.

Why are we asking for a Constitutional Amendment?

We believe YOU have the right to choose YOUR farmer/food producer and enjoy the food of your choice. We believe that we all should have the right to acquire that food unencumbered by regulations in a direct farm to consumer consenting relationship. If you agree with the raising, butchering, and preparing of food YOU should be unfettered from bureaucratic control denying your food choice and your access to it.

The power of the constitutional amendment will give them a chance to say, " gov't, hands off my food, this is MY choice!".

How will the Amendment preserve our freedom of choice?

An amendment guarantees the right to the people to acquire the foods of their choice by the power of the Virginia Constitution. As such, you have the right of due process should that right be infringed. Without an amended right, farmers will still take the brunt of government control and you will be without food choice.

Adding the layer of constitutional protection of the right to food choice is necessary.

Passing the Constitutional Amendment will do that. If you believe that you have the right to have access to food choice freedom please help us.

Please share....call and/or email your Delegate and Senator if you have not already.
Ask them to be a co-sponsor and to support HJ 452.

Your calls and emails are important!

Did you know fresh milled wheat contains 40 of the 44 essential nutrients needed for human life? If that’s the case, then why has wheat gotten such a bad wrap over the past decade? What’s up with all of these gluten allergies? How come folks who can’t consume store bought baked goods containing wheat are suddenly able to indulge in freshly-milled flour without any consequences? What if we told you the truth behind freshly milled wheat is just as eye opening as the history of raw milk?

We’ll plumb the depths of this topic to discover the hidden truth behind Baking with Fresh-Milled Wheat Jan 20th from 6:30PM-8:30PM at Patti’s Place at LGWF with FredCo Homestead Editor, Homeschool Mom and founder of , Nicole Russell!

This class will cover the history of mills here in Virginia and the significance of their role within communities, as well as the anatomy of the wheat berry, types of wheat and suggested ratios for various types of baking. Nicole will demo two different mill types from alongside the Bosch Mixer. The perfect opportunity to get up close and personal with each mill to determine which one may be best suited to your needs!

Participants will enjoy an overview of bread making with visuals and up close demos at critical junctions of the process, sample and compare freshly milled & baked bread in comparison to store bought counterparts, and take home a workbook filled with recipes, conversions, resources, and supportive information to get you started on your freshly milled journey! ✨

If you’ve been wondering about implementing freshly milled grains into your family’s diet or even just curious as to the difference between conventional (dead) flour and nutrient dense, freshly-milled whole wheat flour this class is for you! Join us for the opening of the 2025 FredCo Homesteaders Community Classes and discover why freshly-milled matters.

❄️Christmas on the Homestead Market Update❄️

Though the weather outside may be frightful, the barn will be warm and delightful! 🧣🎄

What to expect at during tomorrow’s Christmas on the Homestead Market and Bazzar: 🌟

will be taking complimentary holiday photos for families. Alternative indoor holiday setting will be prepared weather permitting. Regardless- dress in layers. 🧤

will be offering a gourmet hot cocoa bar in the guest house to warm you as you shop. ☕️

Christmas music will be ongoing in the barn by local artist Andrew Frey. The barn will be heated and vendors will be indoors for your shopping pleasure! 🤶

🎄For Shoppers:🎄

Bundle up and bring along an umbrella in case you need it for your short walk to the barn.

Bring cash for those vendors who don’t accept credit cards. 🎁

🌟For Vendors:🌟

Our gracious host is allowing vendors to pull up the driveway near the barn to unload before the event and to pack up after. Setup begins at 11:00 am. Allow yourself some extra time for setup. 🕛

Plan for transporting your goods in wet conditions. Trash bags can be helpful for anything not in bins to ensure your wares don’t get wet between your vehicle and the barn. A roll of paper towels is also handy for wiping up if needed.🤶

There will be several heaters throughout the barn, but do dress in warm layers to make sure you stay comfortable. 🧦

Share your plans and what you’re bringing on your social media accounts and encourage folks to attend. 🫶🏻

We are so excited that La Grange Family Farm will be hosting our Christmas on the Homestead Market & Bazaar, and we truly couldn’t think of a better place for this special event! 🌟

If you haven’t yet had the chance to visit this stunning farm, now’s the time! Nestled just off RT 11 in Stephens City, La Grange is a local treasure that has been part of the Shenandoah Valley since 1758. With its rich history, breathtaking views, and charming old buildings including the historic McCloud House and mid-1800s Bank Barn. It’s an experience you won’t forget!

La Grange offers a range of farm-fresh products like:
🥬 Seasonal Fruits & Vegetables
🥚 Chicken & Quail Eggs
🐐 Goat’s Milk Soaps
🍯 Beeswax Products
🍪 Baked Goods

In addition to all of this, LaGrange is a place of deep historical significance. During the Civil War, it served as a field hospital, and over the years, it has been home to many prominent figures, including Vance Bush and Dr. John McCloud. The Costello family continued to preserve and restore this remarkable property, bringing its legacy to life before entrusting it to current owner Christa Nahhas.

We are beyond grateful to La Grange Family Farm for opening their doors and their hearts to our community, and we can’t wait to celebrate the season with them! 🎄
