I just love a whimsical laundry room. lf you’re like me, I spend a good deal of time in this room and if I’m going to spend that time doing laundry, then the room should at least make me happy!

It doesn’t take much to change the whole feel of a room. Especially a small room like a laundry room. Follow for the before and after on this room.

I often get asked how we make our spaces seem so curated, so unique, so magazine worthy.

This is often the biggest struggle we hear. Sometimes clients will have invested in new furniture but the space still feels boring, predictable, blaa.

What is often overlooked at the end of a design project, is the piece that makes all the difference in the world…..styling!

What is “styling?” Styling is the combination of accessories like bowls, sculptures, urns, objects, coffee table books, trays and other unique pieces that make the room personal and unique.

Other styling items can include rugs, art, mirrors, pillows, textile art, and so much more!

We like the unique pieces and the pieces that hold personal meaning for our clients the best. This is what makes your house, your home.

Go for that weird object! Put it on your coffee table. Play with height, be daring. And if you need some help, HRD offers styling packages to help you achieve livable luxury.

Starting our week with some design highlights from our trip to Paris. There are so many things that the Parisians just get right. Their gorgeous doors had me inspired. Take a chance, paint that door, buy a vintage door, introduce some character! go for it!

How to know which brass finish to choose?

Brass has become such a popular finish these days and for good reason. It is warm, organic and depending upon the finish you choose, can offer lots of texture.

There are lots of choices which can be confusing. Lacquered? Unlacquered? Tarnished? Satin? Polished? Hand Rubbed? Antiqued? Burnished? The list goes on.

To get you started, note that unlacquered brass is a live finish. This means it will tarnish and darken as it naturally oxidizes over time.

On the flip side, lacquered brass has a clear coating applied so that the finish you see when you purchase it will stay that way forever.

It’s a good idea to enlist the help of a professional to help figure out exactly which of the above choices is the best fit for your project.
